Thailand’s nightlife venues to reopen on Jan 16, subject to assessment

Pubs, bars and karaoke bars Thailand’s COVID-19 restricted zones and “sandbox” provinces may be allowed to reopen from January 16th, on the condition that they meet the required criteria and pass assessments by relevant authorities, according to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

 

The Public Health and Interior ministries, as well as the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, have been designated by the CCSA to enforce safety measures to be imposed on these venues.

 

One of the required safety measures is that venues must improve their environment and air circulation system and that all staff are fully inoculated against COVID-19.

The full announcement says restaurants in 5 provinces may serve alcohol with meals but only lists 4. Never seem to get a straight story.

I believe it when I see it - for now I'm filing this under "things that are not going to happen"....

 

They're drip feeding snippets of 'bad news' to soften the blow.

Actually, this is great news. It has been so peaceful in Thailand since the bars were closed. There is no reason to rush the opening of these venues. This delay will enable more citizens to get vaccinated and prevent Covid infections and death.

Good idea......by moving the date they have at least managed to ensure everyone crosses Thailand off their Christmas and New Year holiday list......Phew!

I sincerely think that the many, many Thai citizens, who have already been deprived of income for over 7 months due to the closures, and are struggling to feed their families, will disagree with your view that it is "great news".

Who said selfishness is dead ?

Dear TAT: Kindly disseminate this news to your overseas reps and travel agencies around the globe, as well as publish it on your own and the Thailand Travel Pass websites, so foreigners who are planning to visit your (allegedly) opened-up country for the holidays and New Year still have a chance to change their plans and go somewhere else instead. I mean, why jump through hoops with all sorts of cost-intensive documentation and pre-travel requirements just to arrive at a destination that is basically dead?

Better safe than sorry. You can still get a Chang beer at 7/11 and sit on the front steps and drown your sorrow away.

The weak government is trying to show they are "doing something" ... but the root of the issue is that they did not promptly vaccinate their population (mucked up the Polish Moderna deal, etc, etc).

Any visitors will have made their bookings for the next month or so in full awareness of the current nightlife restrictions as no announcements have been made confirming the opening of entertainment areas before this one.  This is not a tightening up of restrictions, it's an easing.

November 1st was officially announced, there was no announcement of entertainment restrictions lifting on December 1st...that's probably why you don't know where you read it.   Thaivisa speculators don't count!

It WAS mentioned officially but not confirmed. It even came out of Prayuth's mouth and we all know it.

Jan 16th isn't 'confirmed' either, so let's have this same argument in 2 months.

No it was not an official announcement but it was at least as "definite" as the 15th or 16th January.

"Consider" does not mean "re-open".
