webfact
Picture: Thai Rath Chief of the Thai customs department Phachorn Anantasin gave details of two drugs cases discovered by the Airport Interdiction Task Force (AITF) at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport, reported Thai Rath. In the first case a 26 year old Bangkok woman called Pornphiphat was stopped in the Green Lane after information was received that she may be carrying drugs from Dubai. She was found to have 4 kilos (including packaging) of cocaine valued at 12 million baht in a small wheely case. She fingered west Africans who she said gave her the case and contents. Picture: Thai Rath Her arrest at the airport meant that the person she was supposed to deliver to in the Thai capital got wise and was not arrested. The mule said she was paid 100,000 baht. In a separate case 4.2 kilos of ice (crystal meth) was found in 20 toner cartridges. These were in the post with Thailand as the source and Australia as the destination. I have zero law enforcement experience but don't more sophisticated law enforcement agencies allow the low-level mules to go to their drop-off under surveillance and then nab the higher-ups ?... 6

Well that depends on many factors Who are those higher up? Who with authority are they related to? Sometimes nabbing a "mule' allows anoter with a larger quantity get through on same flight. HGow many brown envelopes or martage payments required?

Splash210
Of course, she found a way to somehow put the blame on Africans. They never take accountability for anything!!! 1

It looks easy in movies but actually following somebody like her without tipping off the kingpin (who probably isn't the kingpin at all, but just another link in the chain) is very difficult and easy to fail. Often, the importing gang will have an inconspicuous observer watching for the mule and noting if there is any unusual activity about her and watch her depart in a taxi. Very difficult for enforcement to quickly set-up 100% surveillance on a random taxi out of the airport when not having any idea of the route to be taken. Just try to follow a friend in Bangkok traffic and see how easy it is to loose them. Even if they get lucky and see the mule get out of the taxi at a big building, once the mule is in the building, how do they know where they went. Very difficult, really.

Tracking device attached to the case or on her passport (they are pretty inconspicious)during customs/immigration check perhaps .

Can't blame the brakes on a suitcase so make sense to blame the Africans , have to blame something or somebody it's in a Thais DNA just look at Anutin and Cha Cha.

ronster
Lot of the woman getting caught doesn’t make sense . She was taking cocaine from Dubai ? Really ? It’s the hub of cocaine trafficking now is it ? She had 4kg just sitting in a small case and not even hidden by the sound of it ? How did she get on the plane with 4kg , be it carry on or in the hold ? Surely her case would be scanned somewhere before going on the plane ? Her arrest scared off the person who it was meant to go to ? Why would they not have arrested her and taken the drugs out of the bag and then told her to carry on the delivery as planned or face life in jail and then nabbed the person it was going too also . ????

Unless, as you suggest, the tip off is the sacrificial lamb to allow others to pass through unhindered - along with the brown envelopes of course... A win win... customs look like they are doing a great job and they get their pockets filled....
