Gov’t Assures All Health Workers Combatting Covid-19 Will Get Paid

BANGKOK (NNT) - Following recent complaints about delayed allowances for health workers and officials who have been working at the frontline to keep Covid-19 under control, the government gave a strong assurance that all frontline workers will receive their remunerations.

 

According to a source from the Ministry of Interior, provincial governors nationwide were told to make sure over 100,000 frontline health workers and officials are given allowances owed to them as there have been complaints that some are not paid.

 

The workers include doctors, nurses, and public health workers stationed at the provincial, district and local administrative offices.

 

The interior permanent secretary’s office issued forms to local administrations to help specify who has already received allowance payments. The interiorpermanent secretary’s office also ordered local administrations to fill them out and return them to the ministry by January 21.

 

The delayed allowance payments were reviewed after the Interior Ministry received a letter last month from the House committee on budget allocation monitoring. The letter was a complaint made by ministry officials reporting that their allowances were not forthcoming.

 

The letter said the officials had been ordered to assist public health duty in delivering home isolation and community isolation care to people infected with Covid-19.

 

The source said the Interior Ministry informed all provincial offices to examine the allowance payments and report back if there are any problems with the disbursements.

 

In addition, allowances for medical workers against Covid-19 are given at different rates for medical and health workers in high-risk jobs which are 1,500 baht per eight-hour shift for doctors and 1,000 baht per shift for nurses and public health specialists and other healthcare service providers.

Its not good when a Ministry has to make such statements.

The Money should be available to pay these hard working people on time and fully.

Sounds a little like the wheels are falling off.
