Oh, riiight, I think you are taking your Chinese purchase a bit too seriously................

Not really, it's a machine, gets me from point A to B.  That's all.  Cars don't do much for me.  Actually wish I didn't need one, but not really a metro kind of guy.   It is one of my bigger money drains, and don't appreciate.

Actually a silly expense, and understand why many enjoy living in metro area, and not having one.  Considering the past 4 cars, easily 5-10k+/-  a month luxury just to have, without out even putting petrol in it, and that entry level cars.

Our Mazda 2 cost ฿515k

7 years later worth ฿100k

So ฿415k÷7 yrs=฿59.28k÷12 months=฿5k a month

add insurance ฿1k a month

petrol about ฿3k a month

Throw in some oil changes & tune-ups,

and it cost about ฿10k a month over 7 years.

฿84k ÷ 135k kms = ฿0.62 per kms

If you don't rack up the kms, then that per km

rate goes up substantially.

Not expensive, but not inexpensive, and that's if

it doesn't need repairs.

Entry level cars start @ ฿600k now

To the 2 confused souls ???? out there, let's do the math.

10,000 baht/month x 12 month x 7 = 840k.

840k/135k km = 6.22 baht/km

SeñorLA was ICE salesman of the century for a little while.

Which is slightly cheaper than the cost of the tyres on my last EV (6.67 baht/km).

That's a weird brag.  Hey!  I really know how to spunk my money away.

Meanwhile Khun LA is furiously hammering away at his calculator trying to make it look like his Chinese MG costs less to run than a bicycle.

Just pointing out a car, is a luxury.   Guess that went over your head.

And can be a big chunk of some folks monthly income.  Simply sitting in the carport, costs, and depreciates at the same time.

Car don't do nothing for me.  If fancy, upscale performance or ride, more than comfortably needed, then that cost is even higher.  I don't get that much enjoyment out of owning things that depreciate.  I probably spend more time than most in ours, but it's still ... just a car.

Nothing I take that serious ... replying to the post that implied just that.

How much are our finest MG owners currently paying for the yearly registration sticker?

Us petrol ️ heads are paying by engine volume. How are EVs charged, by weight? Engine kw?

By weight:

Thanks, but what is 3. Store by weight?

What is 4. Electric cars saying?

U have a link?

As I see it:
The weight chart is used for other vehicles exceeding 7 seaters. The DLT is using this chart for EV vehicles that seat under 7 passengers.
MG ZS X EV is about 1600kg .....

I'm leaning toward 'user error' ...

... detached battery ?

From the link:

... "Firefighters confirmed sparks spread from a detached lithium-ion battery from a luxury car to four nearby cars parked at the airport about 8:30pm."

... "It is unclear why the battery was removed from the car prior to the fire."

And this tidbit ????

... "Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW said that while battery fires were not uncommon, electric vehicles were not a concern for authorities.

IMO Mr. Dewberry is an ignorant fool.

Batteries coming out of China meet higher standards and regulations when the profit motive is in play? Yeah right.

I think it's a safe bet Mr. Dewberry has no scientific or engineering background.

If you read the link, apparently not, it was a comparison of EV (cars) vs e-scooters & e-bikes.

So extremely accurate opinion.

I wouldn't describe him as ignorant, he has hands on practical experience as a Superintendent in the Fire and Rescue Service in NSW, one could argue his experience is more evidential & cumulative than a scientific or engineering theorist.

As for being a fool, I couldn't leap to that conclusion on his experience-based opinion being different from my theoretical one.  Having a different opinion doesn't make one a fool.
