Marijuana latest: Prosecutors to meet with NCB board tomorrow; Anutin has final say on drug's legality

Naew Na reported on the latest developments after Marijuana and Hemp were not named in Class 5 drugs in the latest code issued in December.

 

Their story comes as many minor offenders in Thai jail for drugs are petitioning for early release. 

 

Health minister and DPM Anutin Charnvirakul's Bhumjai Thai party rose to power in the Prayuth Chan-ocha government on the back of legalizing the growing of plants in households. 

 

But ASEAN NOW cautions that recreational drug users look set to be disappointed. Whatever happens people will only be able to grow what amounts to hemp - plants that have less than 0.2% THC, the drug that makes users high.

 

That will get no one stoned.

 

Prosecutors will be presenting their case for the complete removal of ganja from the narcotics list and allowing its medical use when they meet with the Narcotics Control Board main commitee tomorrow.

 

The NCB want certain regulations to remain.

 

The final decision will rest with Anutin who is in favor of legalization.

 

But even then the hopes of many recreational users look sure to be dashed. Though people could grow the plant to extract its oil that can be used legally for medicine. 

 

Bhumjai Thai proposed in their election manifesto that each household could grow six plants. 

 

The latest news comes as Thai print media reported that 92,000 convicts are petitioning the authorities for sentence reduction and early release. 

 

Many of these are in for minor marijuana possession and dealing. 

 

In total the head of the prison service has revealed that a staggering 186,500 prisoners are in jail for drugs. 

 

There are believed to be a little over 300,000 prisoners in Thailand, notes ASEAN NOW.

They should release them and many others who are in Jail for being too poor to get a lawyer or pay people off.

 

Thai Jails were not built for the rich and influential. Many people are in Jail for what westerners would see as unbelievable reasons, putting a like on a Facebook post etc.

 

Lives ruined so the corrupt and staggeringly wealthy can continue their lifestyle without condemnation, the LAW here can be baffling at times.

 

Laws are made to protect those with wealth and power, the poorer section of society have no say, cannot express opinions unless of course they are favorable.

They watch on whilst the fabulously wealthy continue in their lavish lifestyles in silence.

 

The antiquated legal system in Thailand seems incredible to a westerner, 15 years for expressing an opinion, unless that opinion is favorable the masses are under constant pressure, defamation laws are made to protect the very people who should surely take some of those jail places.

 

Laws are made by the few to protect the few.

Yeah I think someone effed up.

 

They struck hemp and cannabis from the Narcotics code in Category 5 but forgot to modify the underlying lists, to legalize stems, shoots, leaves, plants 0.2% THC, and keep THC (flowers/buds/Nugs) on the list.

 

(5)category V consists of narcotics which are not included in category I to category IV such as
marijuana, kratom plant. (16)

The Psychotropics Act defines and prohibits THC, so there's that.

Anutin wants to become the next prime minister (god forbid, but that's his plan) so he will do everything to please the masses before they get behind his lies and scam about the six cannabis plants for every household, that got him and his party a lot of votes I think.

Expect a full legalization or at least decriminalization of cannabis and hemp within this year. I bet

I remember when I used to work way back; many people would not even turn up for work on a Monday due to still being drunk or having a hangover at the weekend.....or they would turn up for work still drunk.

 

Try to not be quite so judgemental about things you appear to know so little....again just my opinion.

 

I've seen beneficial effects from Cannabis in friends. Anxiety and hyperactivity controlled. People often drink for the same reason, with undesirable side effects.

I try to not be too judgemental either way.

Are you disputing the natural cannabis has proven benefits to health? I don't see mothers feeding alcohol to their epileptic children.

 

You seem to be projecting that any who takes cannabis is a 'druggie'. I think you would take exception to being called an alcoholic because you enjoyed a glass of wine with your meal.

 

It seems from your post that it is you who is coming up with the typical 'alkies' defensiveness.

 

Why not reserve equal animosity for people who drink alcohol? As far as I know there are no health benefits with regard to drinking alcohol; other than perhaps it helps some to relax. So why are you not disgusted with people drinking for no other reason to relax or get drunk?

Try growing a pot plant in a bag of cement.  Do you add manure or just sand, gravel, and water it every three days?  It won't grow a nanometer in concrete.  Also it would probably be hard to roll one if it did magically grow.  Please, don't give him any ideas.

These things always get derailed by people with very little knowledge and experience. Usually people who know someone who knew someone who died from a drug overdose that had nothing to do with cannabis but who read some nonsense about gateway drug and swallowed it hook line and sinker.

Never allowing themselves to realise that they just swallowed 'research' commissioned and funded by sectors that did not and do not want competition.

 

It's not about caring for your health and safety. I don't even like to take paracetamol when in pain, so resistant am I to putting unknown substances into my body. I would certainly feel more comfortable about ingesting a naturally grown and untampered-with product if in need of pain relief.

Why dictate that my choice should be limited to alcohol or some man made drug? I choose none of the above if given the choice. They restrict your choice in so that you can only choose man made...unless they can control. Commerce. Don't fall for the misdirection.

I think that quite a few posters are unaware of the health benefits of hemp and marijuana. One day, if you're in a lot of pain, for example,  you might be grateful that they were legalised.

Depends in the strain of weed. Originally Jamaican plantation slaves smoked weeded to enhance their work abilities giving them energy to cope with tedious work. Some dope slows  you down and Some dope speeds you up.

Why always want to find a way to criticize, even if he makes money out of it, which you have no idea by the way even it s possible, he s doing a great thing for Thailand, people should be honest about it. I don t care personally about Anutin, but I will remember him for this. They are legalizing very fast, and this will for sure in the near future bring good opportunities for business, and most importantly they will stop putting people in jail for non sense like they did with kratom. I don t know really what else he s doing, but on that front he s doing a fantastic job in my opinion.

I have personally seen a friend (now dead) laying in a hospital bed, and hallucinating, not recognising anybody, and thrashing around with the DTs, that is the result of alcohol ! Weed is technically non addictive like most other drugs are. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about.
