Investigation called after Thong Lo cops "line up to get something" at Chinese New Year!

Manager reported that top cops in Bangkok were scurrying to limit the damage after a long line of cops in Thong Lo were filmed waiting to get something.

 

Met chief Lt-Gen Samran Nuanma instructed Region 5 of the met chief Maj-Gen Sophon Saraphat to investigate what was going on.

 

Samran said it looked serious and could damage the image of the Thai police. 

 

Spokesman at RTP HQ Maj-Gen Jirasan Kaewsaeng-ek said the incident happened in Soi Thong Lo and might have been in connection with Chinese New Year.

 

ASEAN NOW notes that at Chinese New Year some organisations hand out "treats" to the police in envelopes.

 

But whether the unseemly queue to get a CNY bonus could possibly damage the force further is a matter for some conjecture.

I guess they generally don't line up together often to receive the largess of the organisations, probably more a solo handover, and not in public space.
