webfact
By Namo Vananupong BANGKOK (NNT) - AI cameras are now at work at Asok intersection in Bangkok spotting motorists who stop their vehicles atop crosswalks. Meanwhile, people who submit video clips of traffic rule violations now have a chance to win 20,000 baht in prize money. Asok junction, where Sukhumvit Rd. intersects Ratchadaphisek Rd., is busy day-round and is crossed by a large number of pedestrians each day. The crosswalks now sit on a red background that contains a message warning motorists of an applicable fine for stopping atop the area. AI cameras take photographs of traffic law violators, after which the AI system assembles the relevant information and issues traffic tickets that are then mailed to the address of the violator. With the introduction of the 20,000-baht prize money, the AI cameras are now complemented by groups of students and random individuals who attempt to record traffic law violations via their phones. Some motorists who spot the camera ambush try to rectify their error by backing their vehicles away from the crosswalks. Video clips of motorists who do not stop for pedestrians at crosswalks or who do not comply with the stoplight at crosswalks may be sent to the social media center of the Royal Thai Police Command Center, the “Asa Ta Charachon” Facebook, the Don’t Drive Drunk Foundation, JS 100 Radio’s Facebook and the FM91 Trafficpro Facebook. A submitted clip will be forwarded to the police station responsible for the respective locality and the clip owner will have a chance to win a monthly reward of 20,000 baht. The issue of crosswalks safety came under the spotlight in January, after the death of a specialist physician who was hit by a speeding motorcycle as she was crossing the road at a crosswalk in Bangkok. Pol. Col. Bawonphop Sunthara-rekha, the superintendent of Phaya Thai police station, revealed today (1 Feb) that the motorcycle rider has been handed two additional charges. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-02-02 - Aetna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Real Name Hidden
The Rama 9 intersection two km north is far more dangerous for pedestrians than the Asoke intersection.

DaLa
The UK has up-dated its Highway code ( on which motoring laws are based) as of 29th January 2022. There are new rules pertaining to motorists approaching junctions when a bicycle is in the vicinity. Cyclists are being asked to provide video evidence of motorists not complying with the new rules and the CPS will use this as evidence to prosecute the motorist. In sharp contrast to the motorist (and pedestrians) who for years have witnessed a sizeable portion of cyclists running red lights, using the pavements (side walk) and not stopping at pedestrian crossings. Also of course it's impossible to identify the offenders.

Tropposurfer
Yep it can be a real bug.er of a crossing that's for sure, like lots of really wide BKK roads. I use the skywalk instead when I'm/we're there.

Well , it seems you are very presumptive, look everything from a zero sum perspective , like your opinion that roads would get safer as people may move from alcohol to cannabis, I have seen you schooling folks on how Adipose tissue cant be created from a muscle tissue so I assume you have more grey cells than the single cell organisms I encountered in AN. Now since you are smart, you would know that what they are doing is calling for more confrontation between motorists and civilians who are trying to win that prize money. Road Rage is real in Thailand and with so many cameras with their so called AI technology ,its more or less of a charade with their picture clicking farce. They have enough manpower and resources to manage it , the problem is not resources or lack of , problem is intent. Now I never bash Thais or any other nationality , My opinion is always against Thai politicians , Thai elites and Thai bureaucracy , Normal Thais are victims or rather slave of the vicious culture they have created in which they have no choice but to serve to the demands of elites. Dont think that the corrupt Thais in Phuket ,Pattaya or other tourist hot spots represents the real Thais who you would find in villages, up north and other parts. I am for the common man. As far as your diagnosis of Split personality , Do you have a doctor I can consult or do you dole some prescriptions part time ????..... I am kind of encouraged by your support of cannabis so I would assume you can send me to moon , if not alteast send @GammaGlobulin..... No disrespect ...... Adios!! Your assuming it causes more aggression, it might not going to deny there could be times it happens. But overal i think its not a problem at all as it wont be noticed everyone has a phone in their hands already so it wont be that clear that pictures or video's are taken. I do agree with your assessment that there is no lack of resources, more lack of lazy cops and camera's that havent been maintained. Nah, i don't dole out prescriptions for split personality but i could write a nice exercise routine for you and let your body help you cure yourself (exercise can help with depression and so on). Yes I do support cannabis though i won't be using it (anymore) as it does not work well with my health goals. I have little willpower when i use cannabis, i am known to assault chocolate and drink sweet drinks. It ruins my healthy diet so i stopped it. I see cannabis as a not so bad drug compared to alcohol and am not a big fan of sending people to jail who use their drug of choice without bothering others. But I am a big fan of punishing everyone who operates a vehicle under the influence of any kind of drug. My opinion is simple let users who are responsible (the majority of users) make their own choices in what they use and certainly not send them to jail for some cannabis. RandiRona
13 hours ago, it is what it is said: just suppose, a member of your family was knocked down and seriously injured using a pedestrian crossing. the driver fled the scene, but fortunately a passerby had videoed the incident and could identify the car and driver. would you tell this witness not to pass this information on to the police because it's 'snitching'? Good scenario , wrong example, In what you quoted above It is being done by someone with a good intent to help others and a person with right conscious would always do that but in this scenario , they are asking to do that for a prize money. In this case people are enticed to get something in return.

There have also been some very well publicised crimes recently have only been prosecuted because somebody took a video.
