So Who Clicks On

Featured Replies

I do not as I Kan not be asked too, never have and most probably never will unless I am really looking for something. :o

Most of the time I Google, easy and quick. :D

What about you? :D

Yours truly,

Kan Win :D

The only time I have ever clicked on ads is by acccident, like you, I google!

I only ever click on text, never on unsolicited pictures.

If I am struggling with something in Thailand, I do a search on TV, for everything else there is google, and you find more free and honest answers doing that than the ones you need to pay for, as they generally don't have your bests interests at heart.

This is now the Nth topic started around this subject and you don't need to read between the lines to discover that the longer term members of TV never, or infrequently, click on anything other than the focus of their attention.... and that is definitely not the ads.

I understand their purpose, I know why they are there and I welcome the fact that the revenue they generate helps to keep one of the best internet forums I have been a member of on-line.

What did I see before I clicked on the reply button..... something about health care, 30% off, personally, if I need health care I will google it and do some research, but I am a net-veteran, newer users of this site or the net in general will go 'looky looky' and click on the thing, a percentage of those that click will then be converted into customers .... this is a short term situation .... the internet is not in it's infancy but there are enough new users to make the ads viable at the moment (where you stick them is immaterial to be quite honest) give it a few years, long enough for most of the population to be net-savvy for the advertisers to realise that the intrusive ads don't work anymore.

Do you watch TV? (television, not this place) do the ads on there affect you? .... probably not, you go and make a cup of tea, go to the toilet, make sure the kids are sleeping, whatever ... the big difference is with television advertising there is no instant feed-back, surveys have to be taken from the man in the street (who of course will not be entirely honest all the time)...... it won't be too long before the first company exec says "why are we hiring creative people to produce images that nobody clicks on" .... it's only a matter of time.

The only ads I've ever clicked on were by accident. I would be scrolling down the page and my cursor would slide off the scroll bar and the next thing I know I'm seeing an ad for Rocky's Resort. Never have adtually read one. Now i won't have the scroll problem , now that the rught hand margin ad is gone.

Ditto with Tiggy and Lannare: usually only opened the ads when I hit one in error. P* me off big time when I lost the text of my post, too. But as Thaddy noted, TV offers us a free service so they do need dosh to keep the system running and pay for the BBQs. I do not begrudge their decision. As I said in general, click on an ad so they get a hit; it's like your contribution to TV's upkeep. Geez, I should be on the sales team. 555

This actually does nothing unless you do some meaningful navigation through the site on the other end of the ad.

What I mean is Google sees "mercy clicks" (clicks that immediately hit the back button and register 0.00 second visits) and adjusts them from the totals, neither charging the advertiser, nor crediting the website owner.

If you see something that interests you by all means click it. If you just click to increase clicks for a certain site you're often costing someone money.

I clicked that "farang call" ad the other day as I was intrigued by the prospect of someone making a business out of translation services over the phone. Didn't sign up as I speak Thai but it peaked my interest enough to warrant a click.

Does this mean that if I click on an advertisement and it opens a new window - normally does - and I leave it open for a minute or so it will add revenue to TV? Or do I have to actually negotiate my way around the site before any revenue is received by the launch site?

curious as to how it works

As far as I know, Just leaving the window open for a minute and then closing it will have no effect....... closing a window is a local activity, you could go into a coma for 40 days and the site you just went to will not know (unless there is an auto-refresh script, but staying on the same page for 40 days will still produce a null result)

You do need to drill down, or navigate other areas of the site before TV gets a credit.

Thats right, in the good old days a lot of click-fraudsters had a field day with fast clicking through sites, now though time spent surfing through means $$$.

On most busy sites the Google ads tend to be targeted 'CPM' ads which charge the advertiser per 1000 impressions (displays of the ad) and clicking has no effect. If the ad is something that interests you though, why not click?

I've browsed a number of the advertisers here, including (but not limited to) Bert's Tropical (what-ever), The Blues Factory, mtt Cheap Flights and Saveflights.com (bought my next set of tickets from them, and am considering buying another set). There was another one some time back that did email translations, but I haven't seen their ads in a long time.

I usually have to have a need for something (i.e. airline tickets) before I'll click on an ad. Most of the ones currently featured have no interest for me (like britbaby.com, worldwide car hire, farang call, ect).

Doesn't quite seem fair though. I go to a site and T.V. gets credited with a "click". Meanwhile I end up buying $900+ plane tickets, so in that case, the sponsor gets the better of the deal (I know, how many other "clicks" ended up without a sale though. It's not like my one purchase will cover the sponsor's ad costs).

Any ways. I like TV and would like to see it going just as strong in the future. If I can throw a little business to some of their sponsors/advertisers, why not ?
