Covid Extension to Non-O Retirement

Recommended Posts

A friend is currently on a covid extension of stay and this expires April 6th.

His 50th birthday will be on the last day of March. I presume that he has to wait until his birthday to apply for the Non-O?

Will one week be enough time when applying at a local immigration office? He doesn't want to go into an overstay.

What's the process? Will he get a Non-O valid for 3 months then will have to re-apply for an extension of stay for 1 year when this is expiring or is the 1 year extension granted on the changeover from the present covid extension?

He has all the finances required in his Thai Bank for over 3 months.

There is a problem. When applying for a Non O visa at immigration, you must have at least 15 days left on your current permission to stay at the time of application. Talk to the immigration office to see if they can provide a mechanism where an application prior to April 6th will be possible.

His best option may be to apply for another 60 day covid 19 extension to get more time to do the application after his birthday. He could apply up to the 25th of March for another extension.

After his birthday he could apply for the non-o visa.

He has it all covered.

Must be 50 when he applies for non O retirement.

Must have 800k in Thai bank account on day of application.

I assume he entered Thailand on visa exempt or tourist visa.

Many thanks.

OK.

Confirmed.

Tourist visa.

Thank you, I didn't know about the 15 day rule. Let's hope the immigration office will be helpful.

Not sure that they will give him another covid 19 extension, he got asked many questions on his last application.

He will go and visit the local office again a few weeks before his birthday and ask how he can proceed onto a Non-O for retirement status.

I'll report back on how he gets on. ????

He will get another 60 day  covid 19 extension. Immigration offices often ask a lot of question but then issue another one.

He can tell them he only needs a few days until he can apply the non-o visa on his birthday. If he has the money in the bank now he could show them his bank book as proof he is ready to do it.
