End of mandates in the UK

I'm surprised no one posted about this already. About time, and hopefully all western countries will also scrap the mandates and live with covid instead of trying to eliminate it.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is scrapping the last domestic coronavirus restrictions in England, including the requirement for people with COVID-19 to self-isolate, even as he acknowledged Monday the potential for new and more deadly variants of the virus.

Johnson told lawmakers in the House of Commons that the country was “moving from government restrictions to personal responsibility” as part of a plan for treating COVID-19 like other transmissible illnesses such as flu.

Which is what I and many others have been saying all along. Let those that wish to protect themselves by whatever means they choose do so and leave the rest of us to get on with our lives, as we see fit. I very much hope some governments are punished at the next polls for what they have done, and in some cases are still doing.

Yes, its been talked about alot, fantastic news for the UK after all that joint effort from the majority of the population to get vaccinated and get their freedom back.

Only 66% of eligible people in the UK fully vaccinated. 40k new cases today, similar figures to when we went into lockdown before Christmas. Way too soon to remove all covid measures.

 

Why is the UK the first in the world to remove all restrictions? To feed red meat to the masses and to try to save Boris's bacon.

 

First to remove restrictions, last to close its borders and highest number of deaths in Europe. well done UK government.

Correct. Only 66% have booster which is considered being fully vaccinated. The number of people coming forward for boosters is now minimal, don't expect that figure of 66% to increase much in the near future.

 

On the subject of boosters, its now recognised that your immunity starts to fall off a cliff 10 weeks after your booster. Plans are being put into place to give a second booster 6 months after the previous booster for health care workers, over 75s and those with a seriously compromised immune system.

Considering they are not giving boosters to under 18's thats a very high figure.

If The UK can't open now it never can

 

Indeed a precautionary measure is going to be offered for the most vulnerable in society, that makes good sense.

 

However there is very good news on waning or the lack of just released:

 

Latest results from the UK ONS Infection Survey, antibody data, 23 February.

 

This is very encouraging - and somewhat unexpected given the waning seen in eg. Israel (which may reflect the different combinations of vaccine/dosing intervals or higher hybrid immunity) and should mean current positive trends in hospital admissions and deaths should continue.

 

Latest antibody data from ONS shows sustained high levels at older ages, even after 4 months since boosting of the oldest groups started. Note that only the much higher threshold, recently added to the survey, is now used, up from 42 to 179ng/ml.
