Washington Post: UK preparing to give long-range missiles to Ukraine

The U.K. appears ready to send Ukraine long-range missiles that can hit targets up to 300 kilometers away, the Washington Post reported on May 9, citing a procurement notice by the U.K.-led International Fund for Ukraine.

In the notice posted on May 2, the U.K. Defense Ministry asked for "expressions of interest" in supplying such missiles, requesting a response within three days, the WP wrote.

US set to announce $1.2 billion aid package to Ukraine with counteroffensive looming

The package, first reported by The Associated Press, will fall under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which means it will be contracted and purchased from manufacturers instead of pulled directly from Defense Department stocks in a drawdown.

The package will include drones, artillery ammunition and air defense missiles, the official said, as well as other capabilities.

To be fair, they did ask Ukraine if they could have some of their tanks back for the parade, but didn't get the answer they were hoping for.

Actually Ukraine said yes and that they would deliver them FOC.  Unfortunately the Russians said that they wanted them in one piece and in working order, not scrap iron!

was looking at MSN News today and a Patriot missile system has took out an incoming Russian Kinzhal hypersonic missile. This bad boy was supposed to be unstoppable and nothing could shoot them down CNN is reporting it too. If they have intercepted one that's a game changer there are also reports that the UK is going to send missiles capable of hitting targets inside Russia by hitting warehouses and arms depots with a range of 150 miles.

Russian brigade flees from Bakhmut – Ukraine confirms Prigozhin’s claim

"Prigozhin’s report about the withdrawal of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Rifle Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces from Bakhmut… is accurate," the message said.

The Ukrainian unit added that in the last few days, Ukraine’s Azov tactical group has eliminated 64 enemy troops, injuring 87 more, and capturing five. Some of the soldiers killed were serving with Wagner PMC.

“It’s worth mentioning destroyed Russian equipment: several ammunition depots, mortars, and several IFVs,” the report adds.

Together with this, the failure to secure Bakhmut for Putin for his 9th May Parade and the sole rusty T-34 tank,  I suggest that Putin has now become the laughing stock of the world and more hopefully his Russian supporters.

Ben Wallace UK's defense minister confirmed today in the House of Commons that the UK will deliver Storm Shadow cruise missiles for the Ukrainian forces to use against Russian forces. His main reason being the UK will not stand by and watch Russia targeting Ukrains infrastructure and killing civilians. Ukraine has said long-range missiles will only be used within ukraine and the Donbas territory occupied by Russia. In my opinion, Ukraine has the right to launch long-distance missiles into Russia and target their civilians, but at 2 Million pounds ago there better striking supply lines warehouses and Arm depots. Sky News reports they are already in Ukraine.

Its great news and also more MiG-29s sent from Poland. The counter offensive is coming..............

 

Poland announces that it has transferred another 4 MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. It brings to total number of MiG-29s sent from Poland to 14. Time for us in the West to start sending F-16s too!

 

Poland has now delivered both more tanks (330+) and fighter jets (14) to Ukraine than any other country.

Taking out the bridge has both positive and negative sides,attacking the incoming side of the bridge would be great.

I think the master plan is going to be to attack all supply routes at once

and a massive assault on the front lines.

let's clarify one thing: Storm Shadow is not a long range missile. Its range is limited to 560 Km at most, and the export version has a range of 250 Km, although with some tuning the range can maybe be extended by 20 to 30%.
 

So it's a medium range missile, and a rather shortish one if talking about the export version. I don't understand why the media are heating up the situation by saying these are long range missiles.

 

A Tomahawk has a range of 1000+ miles (approx. 1600 Km) - that would be a long range missile.

Short-range ballistic missiles have a range starting at approx. 300-400 Km.

It may have the "right", but it would be unadvisable to do so, it would lose a lot of respect throughout the world. Ukraine should never target civilians.

 

One thing I would be ok with is putting one of these Storm Shadows into the very visible roof of the Kremlin, just symbolically, depending on whether it would be expected to yield any positive effects in terms of morale and/or politics.

maybe have taken it all out but decided not to.

The reason i mentioned incoming side is because of when the  liberators

come to the Krim the outgoing side will be full of people trying to escape.

I read somewhere that F-16s require longer airfields than Ukraine currently has, and if built they would become an obvious target for the Russians

correct, Mig-29 require just 240m of runway. seems crazy.

F-16 at least 500m.

Great news, its been confirmed that Ukraine has advanced a few kilometers in Bakhmut. Russian MOD also confirming that Russian forces have moved back.
