Putin is likely to win this phase and install his puppets. He's showing now that he's willing to bomb the country to smithereens rather than lose. A crippled Ukraine serves his purposes as well.  But that doesn't mean it's over. Some analysts are suggesting a protected resistance struggle of 10 to 20 years with Russia ultimately losing.

Had this gone better for putin, China would already be attempting to take over Taiwan. Since the expected 2 day capitulation of Ukraine did not occur, china didn't invade as expected.

You all apparently believe that as soon as putin conquers Ukraine,  this will be over. Putin has stated that his goal is to reconstitute the USSR. As soon he's done with Ukraine, he will move onto the next one.

 

This is only the beginning. Unless foreign troops move in to support Ukraine, and especially the next country, this will go on a long time.

So long as the hitman doesn't honk his horn or engage in any freedom minded "wrong-think". It would be a shame if gofundme misappropriated the funds raised and gave it to a charity of their own choosing.

I find it truly worrying that otherwise intelligent posters have a complete black/white view on this situation. Putin = 100% bad. The west/Ukraine = 100% good. Having swallowed their respective countries propaganda they lose the ability to consider that maybe this conflict is the fault of all parties. Both sides use propaganda.

 

 Time people started thinking for themselves, and recognize finding a solution and making some sacrifices is a better idea than calling for assassinations of leaders and other blinkered actions that will inevitable end up in a nuclear war after each side paints themselves into a corner.

Already an Italian Uni has CXD a talk about Dostoyevsky (later re-instated after public outcry). An avowed pre-time pro-Putin guy, for sure.

Let's go check our local Tops, Central and 7/11  and make sure they hide from view everything Russian like Russian salad dressing and, horror of horrors Chicken Kiev.

Vlad has stated that he wants to reunite the lands that comprised the USSR.  I get the impression these countries are looking at Ukraine and wondering if they will be next.  I haven't heard this mentioned anywhere, but could it be possible there will be an attempt at unity of against Putin?  Kazakhstan has already turned down requests for support troops.

 

From the descriptions of Putin's military it sounds like they have been under-financed -- yeah, lots of tanks, artillery, shells etc but quality of the troops sure ain't no kind of spetsnaz.  Almost as if Milo Minderbinder is running the armed forces.

As posted above, Trump had signaled that he would withdraw from NATO.  Without the US power in NATO, Europe would most likely not be able to formulate a strong, consistent, decisive plan either economically or militarily in support of Ukraine.  Trump also signaled he would withdraw from the South Korean alliance which probably settled Kim down.   

 

It was clear when the money and military assistance was withheld from Ukraine that Trump was firmly NOT on the side of Ukraine.  

 

So, two of the worst dictators around were given a pass and all they had to do was wait and they would pretty much have free rein to do whatever they wanted.  The despots would have no reason to doubt that he would withdraw from both NATO and the S.K agreement, he had already pulled out of the Paris Accord, The Transpacific Trade Agreement, the Iran Nuclear Deal, the UN Human Rights Council, etc., etc.   Whether you agree with withdrawing from any or all is secondary to how such decisive action signaled to both Putin and Kim that he would carry through with withdrawing and that would pave the road for whatever action they decided to take.   And don't forget, he wanted Russia included in the G-7.

The tragedy in Ukraine is partly related to Taiwan - in that the US and Europe is making sure Russia suffers economically, because they know China is weighing up the financial impact if they should invade Taiwan.
