And how do you expect that to happen? He's not stupid. There's no person on this planet with more personal security.

Isn't that what Indira Gandhi thought?

After Gandhi ordered military action in the Golden Temple in Operation Blue Star, her own bodyguards and Sikh nationalists assassinated her on 31 October 1984.

Watching how the rich Russians belongings are being seized, I am wondering just how

long these rich Russians will keep on losing their luxury items outside their country before they

start complaining to their leaders. The Russian exodus is expected, but just how long will they

keep up with the invasion? It would seem that Ukraine has no plans so far of just giving up.

I am not looking forward to what else will happen in Ukraine. We should all be glad that

we are still free to comment on this forum, and not be blocked, as the people in Russia are.

Beware of fake news, it will be getting much worse.

But if the billionaires are Russians, they are "oligarchs", unlike the non-Russians, they are tycoons, or just hard working billionaires, that does not sound so bad as the "oligarchs", does it?

Wondering according to which law (surely an "international") the seizing is complying, in the world that is so proud on private property?

When years ago, after the USSR collapse, the oligarchs had arrived to Londongrad, nobody complained, they were warmly welcome, no matter where did their fortune originate from. The richest one, Boris Berezovsky was a close associate with Boris Jelzin, before he decided it's better to run away from the motherland. And after his fight with another fellow oligarch Roman Abramowich in London he (really he?) decided to finish his life on a lamp in his golden mansion. But his case was not so problematic for the media (and govt) as the case of Skripals in Salisbury.

And do we want to seize also the modest Abramowich's yacht? In fact, he is an Israel citizen. And do we want that the Chelsea get also collapse?

It’s not only Thailand who will suffer , the whole world will pay with rising prices and fuel shortages. Not many will feel sorry for the Thais, while the despot Putin is hell bent on taking over sovereign countries. Let Thailands billionaire generals sort out Thailands problems alone.  The Russians will be staying home for a good time, savings lost and all due to their leader.

I think all our thoughts and empathy go towards the Ukrainian citizens who have lost all their belongings, but not their hope. Thailand and others with a lack’ of tourist trade are not on the books.

It is not just the Russian exodus. The OP does not exactly tell the whole truthful story.

Agreed it is a brief, simplistic summary.

But please put a bit of meat on it with some salient points Ryan.

Rather irresponsible to blame the current crisis on the Russians or lack thereof. This was many years in the making. Covid was a bad hit, but the extremely timid response to Covid has been far worse here. They have utterly decimated and sabotaged the tourism industry. Thank Anutin, Prayuth and Phiphat for taking away millions of jobs from the Thai people.

All said, it does not seem fair to Russian citizens, to have locked up their funds. Surely, there could have been a more reasonable way to accomplish these objectives.

amen to that, poor Russians, another victim of this conflict

Poor Russians? Are you serious? What about Ukrainians? Putins troops destroy cities and people, whereas russians state that everything is okay and Ukrainian nazis (that doesn't exist) must be dead.

"The dollar rises" only relative to the decimated ruble. It has moved tiddlywinks against the THB. The current attack on the Russian banking system, and other weaponization of money and banking, puts the dollar's reserve status in jeopardy. More and more nations and individuals are becoming aware of the tenuous "stability" and "reliability" of owning USD. If the USD loses its precious reserve currency status, it will not be worth much.

I get that. Washington needs to stop the spending immediately..  But which currency could replace the Dollar?  The Ruble, the Chinese Yuan? Euro? Japanese Yen?

At one time, the Pound Sterling was reserve currency, but it hasn’t faired too badly since

Many, including Powell, are already talking about a "basket of currencies" (possibly also including Gold)

How the dollar has fared against the Thai Baht is pretty much insignificant in respect to its valuation. The Thai economy is relatively tiny. Over the past year the dollar has significantly increased in value against the Euro, the Yen, and the Pound. It has declined against the Yuan.

Get rid of that expensive PCR test on arrival and expensive insurance. I am sure more tourists will come back.

It has been proven that all these Covid tests and quarantine are useless, because the virus still managed to pervade every nation and even get the infection figures higher.

Just live with the virus.

It really doesn't make sense for Thailand to impose that PCR test. It makes far more sense to get people tested before they board the flight and eliminate the testing in Thailand. And why make it a PCR test over there? An ATK test is sufficient. It will still mean that a far smaller percentage of tourists than Thais will be positive for covid.

However, given the ridiculous quest  of the Chinese govt to keep covid infections at near zero, as long at that lasts Thailand can expect to see 0 tourists from there.
