I have just survived Omicron: what actually happened

We keep reading about the various Covid viruses going the rounds and a few of my friends here in Thailand caught it just after New Year, when many got together to celebrate.

Having had a cocktail of vaccinations including Astra Zeneca, Pfizer, and Moderna in 2021, I seemed to have escaped.

Then a week ago I woke up with a tickly throat which initially I thought could be due to the severe poor air quality the day before in Thailand.

I did an Antigen test which showed negative, however, the next morning I still felt rough, and a 2nd test was positive.

Initially, I went on Google to read up on Omicron’s symptoms, and the food and drink they suggested, luckily I had already.

That night I was coughing a lot and sweating and so took Paracetamol and Strepsils and eventually decided sitting up was better than lying down.

I was not too concerned as the general rule these days was to self-isolate and tough it out.

Having only one kidney, when the Delta virus was rampant last year I was concerned, however, my own feelings now were almost of relief that at last, I had joined the virus club.

The biggest issue was the cough, hot sweats, sneezing, and a few mild headaches.

But to be honest back in the UK I have had a worse experience with just regular influenza.

After about five days, I felt back to normal, but the advice is to leave it for around 7 days before venturing out again and wear a mask at all times.

For the record, my health insurance would have covered me if I paid the first THB40K and I also had a separate cover for THB100K.

That said personally I would have felt more intimated having to go to the hospital unless I was in distress of course.

Glad to hear that all's well now. So you were fully vaxed but still infected - the point being that the vax makes the infections less severe in most cases.

(Btw is that 'intimidated' on the line before last ?)

Too many problems in the world to be worried about covid.

Get your jabs, wear your mask, sanitise and keep aware.

It's hit and miss, if your time is up, it's time to go.

I consider myself one of the lucky ones, good gene's. It's up to your parents how you will cope with life's challenges.

Protect yourself and your family, keep happy.

Keeping positive is the key, sometimes I feel for the AN members, I hear and read their nasty, hurtful, miserable comments and wonder how these guys will survive, they must have a lot of pain inside.

A few weeks ago I attended a funeral in another province, there were many people all sitting around on a small covered area. A couple of days later I started to feel the symptoms of a cold coming followed by 3 days of what seems to be a very bad cold, throat always ticklish etc with all the usual poor feeling’s, then I improved very quickly and after 7 days was as if nothing had been wrong. No one else around me suffered from anything nor did I hear of any colds doing the rounds so did I have a mild covid attack or was it simply a bad cold?

Can't wait for the news-blips ...

"I just survived the flu or head cold"

"I stumped my toe the other day, but I think I'll live"

Had a cough, sniffle, and I recovered ... ????

Best part, scared to go to hospital, have insurance, but have to pay first 40k ... ????

My daughter survived it ... without the drama.

pointless article, if mild symptoms, no needing hospitalisation and no medicines.

The great majority survives omicron reasonably well

I'm guessing the great majority didn't even know they had it ... IMHO

Just survived? A tad dramatic there. I just survived a razor burn.

Everyone has their own way of handling things.  Its good you had the common sense and decency to self isolate yourself.  And I’m glad it worked out.
Compared to some people that say Covid is just a cold.  And they probably would have just continued mingling with people and doing their usual routine.

I had Covid!.....Headache, cough, fatigue and completely lost my sense of smell and taste for 5 days..... (Could be useful in some parts of Thailand) ????

After the 6th and 9th days I tested negative.

(ATK)....Still fatigued, but no other symptoms remained except for about 5 weeks I slept less than 4 hours per day and became nocturnal!

Still nocturnal....Maybe now revisit Pattaya or Bangla!

Just sayin'

Sorry, but how exactly is having sweats and a cough "surviving" Omicron???

I got the Delta variant despite two vaccinations and went through the same as you, but not in a million years would I consider myself to be a "survivor"!!!

Having said that, I'm glad for you it went the way it did!

That's the whole point, isn't it. If it indistinguishable from a cold or flu for most then it is nothing at all to worry about.

But don't tell the Thai government as that would mean they'd have to ease their control of the people.

It is sad.
