Phuket: Handsome foreign backpacker steals from aging Thai baker - not once but twice

A Thai baker aged 70 has said that a handsome foreign man sporting a backpack twice stole several items from his shop in the Phuket old town.

 

The police have been informed and the owner intends to take the matter the whole way.

 

It featured on the Phuket Andaman News page.

 

There it said that the police were looking for a good looking tourist who was a thief.

 

CCTV got a good shot of him.

 

Those with leads were asked to contact the Muang Phuket police or inbox the page.

 

The first incident happened just after midday on March 5th. 

 

Nippon Chaeng-iam, 70, had opened his shop called "Kin Fit Fin" on the Thalang Road.

 

A foreign man came in with a Thai girlfriend and bought bakery items worth 155 baht and paid via Kasikorn bank under the name Ms Caratlux L.

But a stock check revealed two pieces of Kai Yong worth 149 baht and some Sao Ping worth 79 were missing. 

 

The foreigner and his girlfriend had stolen the items the CCTV revealed. 

 

Then on Monday morning Nippon was back at the police station to report that on Sunday two male  foreigners with a Thai woman came in.

 

One of the men shoplifted a pack of protein cookies worth 135 baht and Kai Yong worth 149 baht and secreted them in his underwear. 

 

This one was also caught on TV and Nippon reckoned he was good looking and maybe a male model. 

 

He thought it was the same person as before. 

 

Daily News had pictures of a foreigner with a quite reasonable set of abs, with no explanation as to where they got this. 

 

Investigations continue.

The serial thief is an idiot, perhaps worse to steal from a 70 year old. If he wasn't a 'good looking' foreigner however, not a single line would have been printed about him.

IF the cops catch these people and IF the CCTV definitively shows it was them, the cops should make a big sign to hang around their necks explaining what they did and make them walk Soi Bangla for 10 hours a day. The embarrassment would be more of a punishment than making them pay for what they took.

Should not take to long in identifying  the culprits

I would hazard a guess - daily workouts in the gym? ????

If my credit card was blocked, cant change my currency, cant use Swift transfers and am without money, I would also steal my food. Look how skinny he is, you can see his ribs. If he is not Ukrainian or Russian, lock him up.

I do not understand why petty theft such as this one has to be published? How many such thefts are made in LOS every hour? Are they reported in such a way as this?

They will be taken for a good long ride anyway except the local lass, EXEMPTED.

Darn good idea where to start looking. Unless the immigration is willing to use their computers to search for his picture. Hope the thieves are caught and punished, that's a substantial sum of money for some 70 year old still doing a days work.

I remember many years ago i stayed in "the crown hotel"in sukumvit 29.About 5 am someone knocked my door.I hoped a sexy lady,but it was a policeman and a taxidriver.I asked whats wrong and the taxidriver told the police im not the foreigner they looking for.They said sorry and went knocking other doors.I guess a foreigner had run away from his taxibill or maybe some other issues.

There was a report on this site a while ago of a women's clothing shop owner who installed CCTV to catch thieves. And then it caught her stealing from a customer's bag while she was in a booth trying on a dress. Hilarious. A case of Thai one-step thinking, I suppose - the CCTV could catch customers stealing but she couldn't envisage it catching her.
