Thailand on Saturday (March 19) reported 25,804 new COVID-19 cases, 18,801 recoveries and 87 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

Saturday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 3,328,973 with 24,12 deaths.

The news comes as Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has disclosed that the ministry has prepared the required medical equipment, medicines, and vaccine to combat any Covid-19 mutations. This includes the Deltacron variant that the World Health Organization (WHO) is actively monitoring. He emphasized that preventive measures remain effective as long as people strictly adhere to the ministry’s regulations.

Meanwhile, the public health minister presided over the opening of the Thailand International Health EXPO 2022 on Thursday. During the event, WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus gave a speech via teleconference commending Thailand’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. He also expressed optimism about the Covid-19 situation and the global vaccination system.*

Yesterday in this equivalent post Rabang quoted the following:

"It will reach you too and then you will see if all your efforts were in vain. Eventually everyone will get involved with the virus, some notice it better or worse, others don't have any idea. The idea of trying to hide from it forever hoping that the bogeyman will go away is just ridiculous. I can only shake my head at people still controlled by this fear. Unfortunately they push for the idea that everyone else should do the same by using emotionally catching phrases like 'responsibility' or 'socially acceptable'."

And he probably is right, someday we all will get the virus in some form.  But I would like to tell Rabang the following;

1)  I am not scared.  I think many people who responsibly get vaccinated, boosted, wear masks, try to socially distance when possible are not scared.  Maybe they are just being smart.  Maybe they care for other people and make efforts not to transmit the virus.  And this behaviour is not political or "socially acceptable."  It is behaviour based on science and good will to not spread this terrible disease that has killed many people around the world.

2)  My efforts are not in vain.  I have yet to get COVID and behave "responsibly."  And as I wait to possibly get COVID the treatments get better.  Herd immunity may develop.  The understanding of this disease improves.  And I have lived a few more healthy days.

3)  These messages need to be pushed so society educates people to decide what they can do to protect themselves.

So Mr. Rabang, as you are shaking your head I hope you see healthy people wearing masks, not sick and hopeful that some day this will get better for all of us.

Be interesting to know the proportions of the dead by brand of vaccine they took.

Cases are rising and from my experiences this week I know many who have it, like my GF and now myself. 6 days in and the GF has weathered the storm.  I have a headache, low grade fever, upper respiratory issues, dizziness and fatigue. Even vaccinated and staying away from folks did not keep myself from picking up the virus, but being vaccinated instead and boosted sure seems to be making it feel like a very heavy cold or even a bad flu.  I would hate to think of where I would be or how I would feel if I was unvaccinated.

As I said I know many others here in BKK that have finally been hit by it.  However, I will not be an arrogant and ignorant person and go out and about like many are doing  and while not even wearing a mask outside to help in reducing the spread.

Newly reported official COVID cases declined Saturday to 25,804, with such case drops typical for weekend reports, but new COVID deaths at 87 and patients hospitalized in serious condition at 1,414 both rose to new record highs for the year.

Still, Saturday's new cases report was Thailand's second highest of the year, less only than the prior day's record 27,071 total, and higher than the 24,592 count from last Saturday.

The 87 new COVID deaths reported eclipsed the prior yearly record of 80 set only yesterday. And the 1,414 COVID patients hospitalized in serious condition passed the prior yearly record of 1,402 set two days ago.

In addition, the number of COVID patients in hospital requiring intubation to breathe also set a new record high for the year, rising by one to 512, even with the day's 87 new deaths.

Total COVID cases under care -- patients either in hospital or various alternate care arrangements including home quarantine -- also set a new record high for the year at 237,519.

In the chart below, the government reported that the 1,414 serious COVID cases in hospital represent a per province average of 18 spread over Thailand's 77 provinces, with a current national COVID hospital beds occupancy rate of 25.6%.

For added context, during the peak of the Delta wave last fall, Thailand's daily COVID case count topped out at 23,418, but the numbers of serious hospital cases and intubated patients peaked above 5,600 and 1,100 respectively, and daily deaths topped 300 for a brief period.

So over 5k cases in the Chonburi province.  That seems like it could continue to rise with the cases vs. the ATK tests (reported).  Lets just say that the numbers of ATK test un-reported are 2x's the number reported that would indicate the Chonburi Province is actually seeing over 10k cases a day which could actually be more in line with what folks are seeing from anecdotal evidence.

Maybe its just a coincidence, but the number of infections from abroad has dropped dramatically since many of the Russians have left the Island.

Can't tell you that, but can tell you this: getting vaccinated in Thailand, especially with a third dose booster, keeps you from dying of COVID at far greater rates than any of the alternatives. The chart below looks at the senior citizen (age 60 and up) deaths from COVID thus far in 2022 through Feb. 28:

Have you ever considered those going out and about may have no choice and need to make a living?

It seems the financially secure folk posting day in and day out on these threads tend to forget most are less fortunate.

I have not forgotten at all. It is also a fundamental flaw of this government not giving a feces about the lower rung and no safety net. They would rather bubble and seal them in instead of giving true assistance.  My GF can not make money if she does not work but is doing the responsible thing and staying away from work so as to not infect others.

The arrogant are those folks who could stay inside but choose to waive their "It's my right to do what I want flag" knowing they are in the wrong.

For those who may have missed it yesterday, the government forecast that the current upward rollercoaster ride of higher COVID case counts and deaths is likely to continue for weeks more to come:

The red line projections reflect a loosening of COVID restrictions, which the government is planning to do to a limited extent. The yellow line projections reflect more or less the current levels of restrictions:

Daily COVID cases hitting 50,000 to 100,000:

Not getting vaccinated is like walking into speeding Bangkok traffic: Dr Yong

People should study the benefits and side effects of available brands in order to make the best decision, he said.

But deciding not to get vaccinated was like inviting an accident by stepping off the pavement into the busy traffic on Silom Road, he added.

let's wait for the SongKram and the positive numbers will skyrocket

How old were the deaths ?

Did they have any underlying heath issues ?

Were they double, triple or unvaccinated?

Did they die from Covid or with Covid ?

Counting people with a itchy throat or the sniffles is useless.

This is interesting from an intellectual point of view. However, predicting the future, based on innacurate data about the past, is useless.

Overall negative reaction to Thai Covid-19 center meeting, majority of business owners, tourists want much further and faster easing of restrictions

The overall reaction to yesterday's #Thai Covid Center announcements was tepid at best and outright negative, with vows to continue to fight to lift all restrictions as soon as possible, at worst.

The tourist and business owners want to lift things because it is killing their ability to earn money and the tourists feel it is a major inconvenience to be tested and then wear masks as many in their own countries are not required to do so.

However, the Thai people from reading the article itself the poster above has posted see it the opposite

"Thai people on social media, about potentially easing the outdoor mask mandate (another sore point for foreign tourists), were highly negative, causing the Thai government to reverse on mulling removing the mandate for public areas like parks and beaches"

No matter how Thailand tries to move forward this Government looks at it in the complete 180 degree inverse.

Tylenol, Benadryl, and Nyquil for at night while drinking lots of liquids, as well as taking a hot shower and standing under the steam to help clear out the sinuses..  Being isolated for the past 6 days is also making my GF and I to become stir crazy.  However, doing the right thing and not going out and about, at least in my view, is in keeping others safe and protected from myself.  I know other do not feel the same way, but then as I have stated before doing the right thing and not being self centered and thinking of only myself is the right thing.

That's the strangest seven-day rolling average of anything I've ever seen.  Kinda suggests that somebody somewhere is manipulating the figures.
