SHA+ Hotel Transport without getting in a car / taxi with others?

Recommended Posts

Excuse me in advance if this is not the right place to post. I saw similar - but not exact topics - in this same form.

I have friends arriving in Thailand this month and they are booking their SHA+ approved hotel, which I believe must include your airport transfer.

My concern is one or two of the stories I read where you test negative for Covid, but if you transfer to the hotel with someone who tests positive, then you also have to quarantine.

Does anyone know if transfers still group you together with other people, or whether you have to ask the hotel separately for a private transfer (if that is even possible)?

Thank you in advance.

The availability of shared or private transport (airport to hotel) depends on the hotel.

On a previous 2 Test&Go (Thailand Pass) arrivals the hotel confirmed transport was private.

For my next Test&Go (Thailand Pass) arrivals, I have e-mailed the hotel, who replied that IF I want a private transport I must pay 500 baht extra... I told them that this was not my first T&G and my previous hotels included private transport, I will cancel and use the same hotel as before.

The hotel then replied that they confirm private transport with no surcharge.

I’m not sure if I trust this hotel to honour their word or if they were just trying to stop me from cancelling. At the airport its a little late to find out they have lied - I’m still wondering what to do IF the hotel does not provide private transport even though they have confirmed it.

Ultimately: We are ‘captive’ and there is not much we can do.

But, you (your friends) can e-mail the hotel and confirm private transport.

You used ‘plural’ (friends) - are they travelling and arriving together, if so, its likely they’ll share transport amongst themselves (which isn’t an issue) - You can conform with the hotel that no ‘strangers’ will travel will you.

Seems like you are really over thinking this. They already told you it will be private transport. No one will been forcing you into a car with other people in it if that is what you booked. You just don't get in and call hotel but that won't happen. I purposely did NOT pay the extra fee for private transport to my hotel because I knew with a little common sense that there would not be other people arriving at the same time for the same hotel. I had a nice private ride in a Mercedes as I expected. Well except for the Benz that was a comfortable bonus!

I arrived BKK two days ago. Transport from airport to hotel is private to the traveling party and is arranged by the hotel.  You’ll be shuttled to their partner hospital/clinic for a PCR test and then to hotel. PCR results came around 5:30pm and we were told to check out before 12:00 the next day.  Simple process!

I was also concerned about all this, but I think generally speaking shared transport will be against that (supposed) quarantine and sealed philosophy that Thai health authority are aspiring to... - well, I did say supposed... ! ! ! lol , so I think generally these SHA+ Extra (well, don't forget the "Extra" ) should really provide private transport.... hope ????

Also someone mentioned they have given up on that proximity tracing shenanigan , so again hopefully we will not be chased and captured later like animals and caged if someone on the plane or taxi (driver) or anyone else in 100 miles had Covid... , again hopefully...!  ????

And note while what they are doing with farangs entering the country like this, half Thais are catching Covid left and right.... , I probably will catch Covid while there rather than brining it in... ! ????

Hmmm… I think due to the low tourist numbers most transport will be accidentally “private”. If private transport is intentionally provided by the hotel the cost of this will be more than paid for by their exorbitant prices for one night of test and go, which as luck would have it ,is prepaid and non-refundable. I suspect the hotels will weep when this silly test and go process is stopped

Perhaps I am over thinking it...  The point is, we’re captive and it's easy for the hotel to lie, what is the consequence for them ?

In another concurrently running thread, a private vehicle was confirmed, shared transport was provided - the poster was not happy at all.

In such a circumstance we either live with it or make a fuss at the airport, refuse shared transport and get messed about for a couple of hours - not something I want after a long flight of course.

Now... after years in Thailand, in similar circumstances (particularly tourism) I have encountered situations where staff outright lie... so, I’m suspicious in this case but there is not much I can do.

No one is keeping you captive. You can get private transport then on the way out of airport your car gets hit and you have to get out of it and then go into a bus!  Why not spend time worrying about that instead.  You can also just confirm your PRIVATE transport the day before as well.  So one guy on here said he had a mishap. Big deal! What about everyone else who did not?  From your posts you must worry about everything. Maybe you should have just paid the 500 and then NOT worry? Ever think of that.  Most Thai people and hotels are not out to get you. You just read to much negative stuff on here.  Also why would you get " messed up about for a couple hours"?   There are dozens and dozens of private transport cars parked at the airport. Your hotel or you could arrange that as well. Where are you getting these insane ideas from? So staff probably years and years ago ( in typical forum style) mislead you or lied to you. That is not going to happen this time.

Erm... what was that about over thinking it ???? :whistling:

There is a significant difference between the identification of possible issues and planning to avoid them, and worrying about everything...

Dusit Thanni in Pattaya has private transport.

3 work colleagues arrived this week, all on the same flight all staying in the Dusit..... 3 individual drivers were waiting for them at Swampy to drive them each to BKK PTY Hospital for the PCR test.
