Daily News Thai Caption: Please help my mum

Daily News reported that a 22 year daughter of a woman from Udon Thani appealed for help after her mother was forced into prostitution in Dubai, UAE.

Angun's mother paid an agent 40,000 baht thinking she was going to work in traditional Thai massage when she went to Al Nahda, a residential area in Dubai on April 18th.

But after two days she and more than ten others were told they needed to sleep with customers.

Reporters and local officials went to Ban Ba Yao in Wang Sa Mo district where Angun managed to get her mother on a video call.

But the mother was unable to add anything - she had to keep her voice down or face exposure as she was being held against her will in a second floor room.

Angun said that when her mother refused to engage in sex she was told that she'd have to pay 105,000 baht to be released.

The owner of the establishment is a Chinese man married to a Thai woman from Nong Khai.

Contacts are being made to help all those in this case.

Says it all and reminds me of that 2008 movie Taken, staring Liam Neeson.

Be interested to see how this pans out.

The Middle East - coming to the rescue of the Thai tourism industry to replace the dirty farang. Now this, unbelievable from an area, where one would only expect quality tourists.

Well, some of Arabs like 'em elder, it seems and the lady must have been believing in Santa Claus ... provided the story is true in the first place!

90% of the population of Dubai/UAE are foreigners. So the 'massage' business is probably aimed at that huge market, at high-earning expats many of whom are single, and has little business from the locals.

I find it funny how comments above blame the Chinese husband but not the Thai wife who I have little doubt was the procurer.

It is hardly a secret that this occurs. This kind of thing has been going on for a very long time, decades, and if people came out of their little bubble and read the news then they would be very aware of the danger of accepting employment in such places.

Worked in that region for many years and every few months such articles would appear in the local papers. The first thing many employers do is confiscate the employees passport.
