At what point ( within that 1st 30 Days ) can you apply at Thai Immigration for the 60 Day Visa Extension on basis of being married to a Thai?

Thnx in advance.

Common is couple weeks prior to expiry of your 30 day permit.

Of course you can do it up to day of expiry but that's a bad idea.

Depending on how long you wish to stay.....you could obtain a 30 day extension to your visa exempt followed by the 60 extension to visit wife.

So just to clarify - anytime during the initial 30 day Tourist visa one can apply?

Thanks for the 30 \ 60 options

I have read reports of obtaining the 30 day extension basically straight away arrival visa exempt, however don't be surprised if the io said come back in a couple of weeks.

Is there a reason to apply so early.

As I stated above couple of weeks prior to expiry is common.

Early was not the concern.

More if it was only say in the last 2 weeks and I turned up after arriving just 10 days before.

Peace of mind knowing we can rock up at any time during the 1st 30 days ????

We are talking the Korat office!

@dr jack54 - Can the 60 day visit wife extension be extended a further 60 days?

No.

One 60 to visit wife per entry.

By way of example if someone entered visa exempt could do the following.

Visa exempt+ 30 day extension + 60 to visit wife.

Border bounce and repeat.

Why not get a 90 day non o visa before you leave, nothing to worry about then.

Good question.  (all questions are good, only there are inevitably some stupid answers.)

Back to the 30+30+60.... it the 60 day extension "to visit Thai wife" a relatively recent change?  I've been away from LOS a few years, and I believe at the time I was there, after a 90 day visa, one could extend a month, but with a Thai wife could extend two months.

Yes, I visited the local Immigration Office four days after arriving.last December, having first visited the local Police Station to make my presence known in the Tambon. I was stating with a local family at their home, not a hotel or Guest house. I was on a Thailand Test and and Go plus one month visa exempt visit.

My visa was extended for 12 days, fee B2500, and told to report again the following week.  during this second visit my visa was extended a further 14 days, fee B3500 and told to return in 10 days. Finally I obtained a 60 day visa, B5200.

Many months ago I bemoaned the fact that the Laws pertaining to Immigration  which are published in the Royal Gazette are applicable nationally and  should be implemented consistantly nationwide.

The reality is that the foreigner is at the mercy of the individual dealing with their application.

One soon realises why Thailand is the LOS. Just hang onto that loose change in your pocket. you may get lucky!

Which immigration office was it that ripped you off.

An extension to visa exempt entry is for 30 days and it's cost is 1900baht.
