U.S Capitol Riot: The January 6 committee is about to show its work

Washington (CNN)  More than 500 days removed from the violent attack on the US Capitol, the committee investigating it is ready to show its work.

 

The House select committee will hold its first public hearing this week, on June 9 at 8 p.m. ET. Sources told CNN this hearing will be a broad overview of the panel's 10-month investigation and set the stage for subsequent hearings, which are expected to cover certain topics or themes.

 

While the setup of the hearings has been a work in progress and evolving, sources note, the presentations will likely feature video clips from January 6, as well as some of the roughly 1,000 interviews the committee has conducted behind closed doors.

When a group of people storm a government building with the goal of changing the outcome of an election........... that's the very definition of a BIG DEAL.

If Biden and Hillary called Trump's Presidency "illegitimate"............ meaning it was not legally obtained......... they were wrong. He was legally elected.

 

If they mean it was "illegitimate" in that he had no mandate based on losing the Popular Vote, they are correct. 

 

When "the will of the people"---the person who gets the most votes---you know, democracy?----gets cast aside............ as has happened in roughly 10% of presidential elections because of the corrupt Electoral College system.......... the resulting victor can rightly be called "illegitimate." 

 

They are not "illegitimate" because they didn't win Constitutionally. They DID win Constitutionally! They are "illegitimate" because they don't actually represent "the will of the people." - - - - - "Of the People, by the People, for the People" and all that!

 

The word "illegitimate" doesn't mean just one thing. The context of how and when Biden and Hillary said it............ will define how they meant it.

Virtually everything you say here is interpretation, not fact. And none of it  has anything to do with anything I've said or espoused. 

 

As for Trump's impeachments........... 

 

WEEKS before the House even started their official investigation, Mitch McConnell declared that the Senate would not be removing Trump, if impeached. (Reported Oct 8th or 9th). Thus, the verdict was declared long  before any evidence was even presented! That's corruption at its finest! 

 

Nonetheless, despite claims to the contrary........ ("ridiculous Impeachment")........ Trump, was GUILTY of both the charges levied against him in the first Impeachment. He DID abuse his authority, and he DID obstruct Congress.

 

The fact that both these charges were true............ pretty well defines the fact that the Impeachment was not "ridiculous."

 

(Had Trump, attempted to bully Ukraine for some other reason, I might have given him a pass. But what he tried to do was get Ukraine to dish dirt about his most likely political opponent for the incoming presidential election. THAT is what made it an Impeachable offense. He tried to use his authority to manipulate election results by manufacturing damaging negative publicity!) 

 

The second Impeachment WAS "ridiculous," I agree. 

 

If the Jan 6th Commission is JUST NOW getting ready to release their findings, after 15 months(?)............... how could the House have had enough evidence to justify an impeachment.......... in Jan, 2021?

 

Answer: They couldn't. 

 

Thus, full agreement on the SECOND Impeachment. But the first Impeachment was not just justified......... he was GUILTY!

OK here's the reality. McCarthy committed to hold Trump accountable with an investigative commission.

Mcarthy the coward then flip flopped and decided he didn't want to see an investigation when he learned the West Wing staff and Trump himself will likely be indicted when the facts emerge so pulled his Republican picks from the committee. (Republicans Kinzinger and Cheney have some integrity and joined the investigation on their own.)

It's a legitimate fact finding commission.

We know you're favorite channel won't be showing the hearings and you don't want to watch the public hearings because you might learn something.

Do you understand that there is a difference between expressing an opinion and telling a mob to march on the Capital and fight?

What you describe as a "soft insurrection" is nonsense.  Impeachments following established Constitutional guidelines, protests over police brutality, and a critical press do not constitute any form of insurrection, they show the system is working as intended.
