Basically, getting an answer to the question "Is this house sound and a good buy for this price?"

Depending on where you live there are private building inspection companies.

As for value for money, how long is a piece of string. There are usually 3-4 different figures, what the land office says its worth, a bank valuation, ridiculous asking prices, and the actual sales price.
