To me it's clear: There is NO legal need to wear a mask anywhere.

BA.4 and 5 is slowly increasing in Thailand,  and the overall number of cases seems to creep up (just follow Bangkok Post).

 

BA.4 and 5 leads to more hospitalizations than BA.1 and 2. One reason may be that many people had their last vax last year,  so they have very little immunity against BA.4 and 5 (which are transmissable like measles and have a high degree of immune escape)

I would advise anyone who is Diabetic or Prediabetic to keep on wearing masks in crowded indoor spaces.  You're more at risk for Long COVID symptoms.  You're welcome. ????

Where do you live? Locals in my area...many don't wear the masks when outdoor on scooters or walking along the street, socialising with friends at local shops etc.

And that pretty much backs up what I said above about those who feel vulnerable are at liberty to carry on wearing masks. It also includes those with weakened immune systems from whatever cause

I see everyone around here in Bangkok wearing it. I do see some no Thai not wearing it but that is an exception than a norm.

Ok, so that's the type of person you are - you give us all a bad name.  Probably the same type of person who brags on here about leaving their full shopping behind on the counter after being wrung up when they won't give you a free plastic bag,

I recently spent some time in the UK and enjoyed not wearing a mask although it felt weird for the first day or so.  Also just came back from Singapore where there is no mandate but most people wear them most of the time so I did the same.  I guess I would rather be considerate to those around me and respect their culture and sensitivities rather than act like an entitled idiot.  Weird notion, huh.

To me it's simple - if the majority of people around me are wearing a mask then I will do the same out of consideration.  If Thais stop wearing them I won't wear mine.  Go with the flow, respect those around you.  Not a bad mantra to live by, and you'll find your life much less aggravating.  

Ay my work maybe 70% of the Thais wear masks in the office.  If I have to get close to one to talk I will either put a mask on or keep a suitable distance away so as not to put them in a position of discomfort as they would be too shy to ask me to put my mask on directly.  Read the room.  Why is it so hard for the warriors on here to do the same, and what is wrong with being respectful to those around you?

Maybe because some people actually always do what they personally believe is the right thing to do, instead of just going with the flow like a fish in a stream or a sheep in a herd?

 

Sure there is more resistance while swimming against the flow, but just in that way you will get to the source.

Was in a restaurant tonight where people nearly came to blows over masks. The anti-mask brigade are such snowflakes.

 

A man was with a Thai woman. SHE chose to wear a mask as they were leaving. A guy at another table---one of those guys from a futbol hooligan country---decided the woman was violating some sacred law and turning the Universe out of balance and tore into her, calling her a 'sheeple' and all sorts of other things., as if it was any of his gd business what she CHOSE to do. Her boyfriend  stood up for her and tried to explain it was her choice, but the hooligan wouldn't have it.

 

Voices rose higher and the verbal exchange became increasingly virulent. A few other folks stepped in to tell the hooligan to eff off and leave the woman alone, and he jumped into some batshoot crazy rant about China and mask production and Big Brother and creeping authoritarianism and all sorts of conspiratorial nonsense that would have embarrassed him if he was sane. It was a revolting display or farangdumb which should get the hooligan tossed out of Thailand. He threw money at his waitress (also masked) and stormed out, perhaps hoping to right other 'wrongs' on his Don Quixote crusade. What an absolute (a whole).

 

Don't want to wear a mask, then don't, but what someone else chooses to do is no gd business of anyone but the wearer. Having to see someone wearing a mask isn't exactly Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Stop being such a snowflake and let people do what they want.

Thais have been taught uniforms and conforming is good, even if it makes no sense? Masks will continue to be more common on motorbikes than helents?

In my opinion, people who wear their mask down on their chin, are as smart as the guy who wears his base ball cap on backwards

then uses his hand to shield his eyes from the sun. So not intelligent.

  I have no problem with people wearing masks, as I do not know if they are healthy or not, and I do not need to get sick from anyone else. Any kind of disease, actually.

Certainly a tiny sacrifice when compared to being forced to stand for ages in banks, immigration offices, airport lounges, etc because half the seats provided have been marked as not being available for use and the remaining half already have bums placed on them.

 

IMHO the priority needs to be given to scrapping this social distancing nonsense ahead of any relaxation of the requirement to wear masks in banks, immigration offices, airport lounges etc. Whether it will be, of course, remains to be seen.

I can go years (literally) without seeing another westerner in this area, so there will be no outside influences.

Same in my area, not so much factories but certainly air pollution.

As you I'm the only "pinky" around, so not influenced by foreign tourists who don't understand the rules as they were.

As for locals they all wore masks respectfully for themselves and others.

I shall for reasons of personal choice wear a mask outside for protection from pollution.

Your living in Asia where mask wearing was common prior to Covid for reasons such as PM 2 5, it is what it is  I even wore one on days when the PM 2.5 was bad here in BKK and still will.
