I don't see this making much of a difference where I am (Samutprakarn). As we are in an industrial area, locals were wearing masks long before Covid. Also, wearing a mask here seems to be se

Eeeerm, that's because up until now the mask mandate has been in force. 7-11 staff would have been told that no one was allowed to enter without a mask on. They were just doing there jobs.

  • Well that is certainly a move in the right direction as most of the civilized world has already done. A good, but belated move but as they say , better later than never.   My only thoughts n

Was in a restaurant tonight where people nearly came to blows over masks. The anti-mask brigade are such snowflakes.

A man was with a Thai woman. SHE chose to wear a mask as they were leaving. A guy at another table---one of those guys from a futbol hooligan country---decided the woman was violating some sacred law and turning the Universe out of balance and tore into her, calling her a 'sheeple' and all sorts of other things., as if it was any of his gd business what she CHOSE to do. Her boyfriend  stood up for her and tried to explain it was her choice, but the hooligan wouldn't have it.

Voices rose higher and the verbal exchange became increasingly virulent. A few other folks stepped in to tell the hooligan to eff off and leave the woman alone, and he jumped into some batshoot crazy rant about China and mask production and Big Brother and creeping authoritarianism and all sorts of conspiratorial nonsense that would have embarrassed him if he was sane. It was a revolting display or farangdumb which should get the hooligan tossed out of Thailand. He threw money at his waitress (also masked) and stormed out, perhaps hoping to right other 'wrongs' on his Don Quixote crusade. What an absolute (a whole).

Don't want to wear a mask, then don't, but what someone else chooses to do is no gd business of anyone but the wearer. Having to see someone wearing a mask isn't exactly Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Stop being such a snowflake and let people do what they want.

This never actually happened did it?  You made this up.   People are so used to seeing others in masks now, especially Thai people, I just cannot believe any part of this story at all.

Of all the things never really happened this probably unhappened most.

It happened. 100% guaranteed. Too bad we can't bet. You could post 100% of your net worth, I would win (can produce the wait staff at the restaurant), and I would donate whatever you lost to this website. (Mods, let Doubting Thomas put his money where his skepticism is). Oh...got to add...the restaurant has cameras, so there's a tape of the entire incident......

It happened because some bozos decide THEY can tell others what others can or cannot do. These bozos have decided that CHOOSING to wear a mask is a personal affront to the bozos. He ought to GTF out of Thailand, and soon, because he is going to pull that schtick on the wrong Thai woman at the wrong time, and fifty motocycle drivers will womp his sorry backside, as he deserves.

It was an incredibly rude and childish display that cast a pall over all the other diners, as the lout also tossed out a fusillade of swears. The clown also used his bully pulpit to scream out about every known silly conspiracy theory in the Universe, indicating he is a sorryarse loser in every aspect of his useless existence. Gee, and to think some Thai people develop a negative impression of foreigners. Imagine that!

JFC, some people are 100% a-wholes.

It's 2022.   I'm sure if it happened someone would have pulled out their phone and recorded a bit of what sounded like a very long running altercation.

I'm very much looking forward to "the thing that didn't happen part 2, revenge of the Moto taxi"

I find it so strange that even though we have known since April 2020 that COVID is particularly dangerous to certain groups, there are still no campaigns to inform them and to nudge them to change.

The healthy population has made incredible lifestyle sacrifices, has spent in excess of 15 trillion dollars, sending the next three generations into endless debt, plunged into possible stagflation, to give these vulnerable groups the time to sort their #@% out.

It's very simple: if you are fat, or have diseases associated with being fat, such as a type of diabetes, or you are unfit, or have a poor diet, then you had an overwhelming moral duty to solve your problems within 2 years. All you needed to do was get your BMI down to 24, go for a daily run, stop eating sugar, eat lots of Vitamin D.

15 trillion. That's how much it cost the World to give you the chance to change your diet and buy a tracksuit. That's 15 Afghan wars.

As for the old. They have to follow the vaccine requirements. It is unforgivable to ask of others so much and to not do the bare minimum.

The World cannot keep babysitting you. The young and healthy have done so much for you. They sacrificed their futures. You're now on your own. The masks are off. Good luck and good night.

You edited your post and added this part after I made my post!   If there are indeed video recordings then that is excellent and I am prepared to stand corrected.   If you could just reveal the name of the alleged restaurant where this alleged event happened then when this alleged video is released onto social media this will of course corroborate your story.

Troll post insulting other member removed, along with subsequent bickering.

To refresh your memory.....Something about me being uneducated and only seeking attention...

Coming to work this morning i went through our local market town during rush time.

Plenty of people about, every one that I saw had a mask on, apart from two taxi drivers who where sitting on the bonnet of one of the taxis having a chat with their masks pulled below their chins.

Went into the 7-11 and again everyone still wearing masks.

Thermometer still there and everyone continuing as if the mask mandate was still in place.

I don't know what would have happened if someone would have entered without a mask on.

I'm presuming that in the tourist areas masks are the rarity but here in Samutprakarn, it's just like somebody forgot to pass on the memo.

I am not going to embarrass the restaurant publicly. I can forward the info to a Mod privately and he/she can decide to forward it to you.

I do not understand why you are skeptical. Just read through this thread and see many anti-maskers are irrational losers. <deleted> it matters what another person CHOOSES to do I don't understand.

Also, I did not see your subsequent post until now. I edited, but not in reaction to anything you posted, rather just some details I thought might be germane.

Apparently you are not willing to bet your entire net worth against my post. That is wise. The incident happened. Not everyone, however, grabs his/her phone to record incidents, especially when they are trying to enjoy a meal. Having eaten in the restaurant many times, I do know IT has cameras that would have captured the entire incident.

After the bozo stormed out, one of the wait staff told me the same loser had  been calling her 'stupid' and 'an idiot' all night because she was masked. <deleted>? What right does he have to berate a woman just doing her job in a way she feels comfortable? Perhaps he will choose another restaurant in the future, as his custom will not be missed.

I chose to ignore that offer due to the sheer ridiculousness of it, yet you persist as though it gives your story some credence.

I don't think his custom ever existed, so on this point I agree his custom will not be missed.

IT HAPPENED. Anti-maskers can be right proper a-wholes.

Will be interesting when I go to my local Makro later today the guy on the door loves to tell people off if there nose is not fully covered what will he say when I enter with no mask . If I’m honest there are many on the island who only put a mask on to enter the shops otherwise it’s a case of the mask being  around your wrist or in your pocket

Just left the Makro in Bang Phi. 100% mask usage, guard mentioned it to a customer entering and the man put his mask on.....as I was loading up the car a van pulled up next to us and 8 exited all wearing masks.  No issues with masks unlike the anti masker brigade and I believe @Walker88 story.  Listened last night to a group of foreign men making jokes of all the walking folks wearing masks calling then Sheeple....tossers all of them, must not have anything else to talk about.

That's nothing.   I was walking down the street this morning and a big group of masked people let out a collective giant "tut" just as I walked past as I wasn't wearing a mask.  Someone across the street (wearing a cape of course as he was a hero) shouted over to them there was no need to tut as the mask mandate has ended.   Then everyone who had previously tutted suddenly took off their masks, threw them into the air and cheered loudly.   Everybody in the vicinity who witnessed this clapped loudly and engaged in a collective sing-a-long.

Staff still wearing masks at 7-11 and another shop, as well as everyone on the street and staff at street stands that I noticed, other than 1 farang pedestrian.

Glad they are continuing with masks.

There is a segment of the anti-mask brigade that is hellbent on imposing their beliefs on others, per my FACTUAL anecdote from last night in Bangkok. I don't know what is wrong with these bozos, save for the fact they are probably impotent losers seeking some control over something. That the lout was abusive to a Thai female guest, and as I subsequently learned, to a Thai female waitress, suggests he has manliness issues with what an impish and economical Universe might have handed him.

If someone chooses to continue to wear a mask, it doesn't affect me in any way, thus I have no right to tear into them for their choice. Civil society would match that term if the louts would keep their own mouths shut.

(I offered a gentelmen's bet to a skeptic, which in no way would benefit me. I guess the skeptic is of modest means and thus fears losing, knowing I did not make up such a story. I'll state it again for those who in need of remedial education: if someone CHOOSES to continue to wear a mask, it is their right and others are welcome to keep their mouths shut.)

The only way some people will ever stop wearing masks is if there was the threat of jail for wearing one.......Many Thais love wearing the stupid things....

And from today forward there will be a farang not wearing a mask in 7-11 any more......I need to set a example for all the maskers....

As opposed to those broader circles that profit big time from repeated and promoted official narratives.

Right, wrong or indifferent......the inherent nature requires a balance.

Wearing a mask (irrespective of whether it has any effect or not) is showing consideration for other people so let's agree to disagree on masks being stupid or those who rant and rave about them being stupid.

Sincerely hope that next time you enter a 7/11 the staff tells you to bug off, would have loved to watch the ensuing hissy fit.
