Can Thammanat deliver death blow to teetering govt in censure debate?

“Anything can happen in Thai politics” was Thai Economic Party leader Thammanat Prompow’s reply when asked about the possibility of allying with the opposition Pheu Thai Party after the next general election.

His remark on Wednesday (July 13) came just a day after his party announced it was pulling out of the government coalition led by the Palang Pracharath Party. That sudden move followed by Thammanat’s statement could pave the way for a dramatic power play at the next poll.

However, analysts do not expect Thai Economic’s withdrawal to have a significant impact on the upcoming censure debate against PM Prayut Chan-o-cha and 10 other Cabinet members.

They expect the coalition to lobby smaller parties, and perhaps renegade opposition MPs, to vote in support of the targeted ministers.

Wouldn't it be much more reasonable and practical for the MSM [and convention] to address and clarify what real challenging and question opposition political parties might look? Instead of the dozens of fractured political identities that realistically fall under the same protected loyalist umbrella......?????

Progressive Party [former FFP]

Commoners Party

Social Democratic Party

.....and the more than a handful of active/defunct political parties, some of which have morphed into other entities.

How about comprehending what the term "opposition" might refer to before repeating the same thing often and loud enough dumbfounded.

Thammanat's Thai Economic Party recently lost a by-election they thought they would win and the "group of 16" mainly small party members have said they will support Prayut in the censure motion.

Maybe Thammanat has over-estimated his influence

Maybe, but this nasty loud character is a convicted criminal and he had enought influence to convince/force the PM to assign him to senior positions. He's had no hesitation to attack and to intimidate numerous politicians and gov't officials.  Jail for life would be the best place for him.

Don't they all?

According to the "other" newspaper the Setthakij Thai Party will have no role in the censure debate on the oppositions side.

This is different to ASEAN news and which is correct I have no idea. However should anyone wish to read the story in the Post just log in.

Please note that in accordance with the rules I have not quoted anything from the post nor have I given any links.

Might try absorbing such by way of a Thai/Thai language source and perspective.......instead of the proverbial and expected "Farang/English-language" fount - which appears to be the acceptable and only gospel as applies to "Thai" news.

Does become quite weary when all this is accepted.
