Closing account that I used for the retirement extension

Featured Replies

I consider closing the bank account that I used for my retirement extension, and not sure what I'm gonna do with the funds yet. The account has never been below 800K.

At the same time I have other accounts that hold at least 800K baht, and that since before I applied for my retirement extension.

Can I just close the account and use the other ones on my next renewal?

As long as you can show the funds were in there continuously for the past year, yes.

You can change accounts but you will need your bank book for the closed account to prove you kept the 800k for 3 months and then 400k baht until you closed the account and then can show it in another account.

Do all offices allow the use of multiple accounts?

I seem to remember mention of some that do not.

I also assume the multiple accounts are in your name only!

When's your next extension due? Personally, if possible, I'd switch to using another account at immigration first, and only then close the account. Just to avoid any hassle or strange interpretations of the rules.
