Went to Nationwide and asked .

You can have a Thai address and live in Thailand , but you need to be living in the U.K to open a Nationwide account

I have been with NW for decades, haven't used the account for probably 12 years, they still send me monthly emails, the account is still there, though the CC was terminated for lack of use..

If you want to keep banking with Nationwide you need UK address. Maybe use a family member , get consent. Nationwide app works OK in Thailand you will need UK sim for OTP security as with any UK banki

Does Nationwide realise the address is in Thailand ?

It could be an automated process where the whole process is done automatically .

I will go into a NW branch today and ask them whether they allow it

Maybe they are as bad as Thai banks with different banks having different rules.

I'm in the same boat.

Did you end up getting your new card sent to Thailand?

Has anyone here had their card posted to Thailand recently?

Was you able to activate the ATM card in Thailand ?

Previously I has to activate my ATM card in a UK ATM in put the pass code in .

Couldn't do that in Thai ATMs

I am also curious about this. The card is VISA based so it ought to work worldwide.

If opening a new Nationwide account online it is necessary to type in a UK address. Once you have the account you can type your Thai address in there if you like and your Thai phone number. Seems it is a computer we are dealing with, not a human, so it accepts what you type in without question. Go paperless and do all online with a card reader, which they posted to Thailand! They will also post cards here.

Nationwide support service is not good and I just love the letter that comes back suggesting I visit a branch.

Experience of other UK banks has not been good but Lloyds works ok, about on a par with Nationwide.

Going by memory i was told that you do not have to activate the card any more but it must of worked in Thailand because I changed my pass number

Sorry to be so vague but it was a little time ago

Was able to activate a replacement card in Thailand but I don't know what happens if it is your first card on a new account?

Changed from UK address to Thai address with Nationwide several years ago.
