US Retiree Expat in Thailand - recommendation on best options for health insurance coverage while visiting the US

Featured Replies

What are current US Expats using for health insurance coverage when traveling back to the US for short visits (less than 6 months)?

The typical global health insurance that includes US coverage is typically very pricy and would be overkill for an occasional trip back to the US to visit friends and family.

A related question would be for those over 65, if Medicare (just the standard Medicare) is enough as emergency coverage for these trips?  Or are there other/better suggestions.

Living in Thailand, the plan is that all of my regular medical needs will be done in Thailand (via local health insurance coverage) but when I travel out of Thailand I would look to have travel health insurance to cover any emergencies while traveling to any destination.  Though I read there are complications for US Expats simply getting a short term travel health insurance when visiting the US (is this correct?).

Appreciate any light the experts and current US expats can shed on this subject.

Thank you.

I have Pacific Cross and this gives me coverage while I am in the US.

If you are reasonably healthy medicare may be enough...i would at least get a really good full physical before leaving Thailand to hopefully at least be aware of any ticking bombs and then insure or not accordingly.
