Absolutely. I've no idea why anyone would pay 24k when they have everything themselves already. ????

Fantastic value really for those that have fund issues. A ME is bt 5k alone. Take in travel and hotel costs. Then the border runs every 90 days, if they'll even possible in 270++ days time ???? Yikes! What a load of hassle and stress of the unknown that a simple 26k nullifies. ????

Yes but the only thing the local IO does is check if the Documents are correct, if so then the documents get send to Regional HQ for approval. Regional HQ will make the final decision, not your local IO!

 

That is why you get a "under consideration stamp" in your passport. The decisions can take up to 30 days to come back from the HQ (my longest wait was almost 45 days)

he asked about changes to ME non O marriage at Savannakhet.

He actually received correct answer in first posted reply.

The process is the same as pre covid.

An ME non O suits many folk perfectly.

The OP has not indicated that he has a current non O.

The agent would need to first obtain a non O then obtain a 12 month extension.

30k might be possible for non O and extension based on retirement.

The process based on marriage is much more expensive.

 

Of course I'm referring to using established companies such as ThaiVisaCentre in Bangkok and places like Maneerat in Pattaya..

Due to working offshore, never spend more then 3 weeks at a time in LOS, therefore its this option or Thai Elite..... think i prefer this one thanks

You list the ME non O and PE (elite visa) as your two options. 

You could of course obtain a non O with extensions and multi reentry permit..

Thinking the ME good option.

 

Reports from folk with similar shifts to yours and previously using visa exempt entries being told the old line "get a visa" by immigration.

Make sure to get a multiple re-entry permit with the extension then you can come and go as often as you like.

The keyword here is 3 weeks at a time.

 

Under consideration period is 30 days minimum (if going for the Marriage extension). I had to wait one time 41 days. From January 6th - 17th February and this was pre-covid.

 

Edit: And if he would go for his 1st Extension, there would also be home visits. Not sure if he can make that in those 3 weeks he is only here.

30,000 baht is high, but not totally out of line for a marriage extension. You cannot compare the prices for marriage and retirement extensions through an agent.

Yes, I have used this type of visa before. It is convenient and I can travel out of the country without having to seek a re-entry permit. The one year visa can also be stretched to 17 months before requiring renewal.

The reentry permit is no big deal as that can be purchased at airport multi 3800 for those using extensions from a non O.

 

Having said that if I was married it would clearly be the option I would choose as (pre covid) I exited Thailand a lot.

Added to no financial requirements and no dealing with immigration requirements such as under consideration period and home visits etc. 

Excellent option.

I was referring to the poster who took over  the thread with the post about agents. I know it is possible to get a first time,  retirement based  extension for under 25,000b from a very reliable source. I personally would choose the option the OP is talking about. I understood most agents keep away from marriage based extensions but must be wrong.

totally agree, have done 10 400K extensions but seriously considering savanakhet next time. good excuse to get out of the country for a bit, extensions have made me lazy!

It's not my intention to take over this thread. However, that's interesting it took as long as 45 days for you. I'm currently on a 43 day wait with Samui Immigration (first extension at this particular office). My final consideration date is 16 Sept & when I called to check the progress today, the lady on the phone said it might not be ready until that last day or maybe a bit later! (granted I wasn't talking to a senior officer). I'm travelling overseas for 6 weeks immediately after the 16th, so surely it couldn't go past the final date?

I thought all marriage extensions around the country were approved at Chang Wattana or would this be done at Surat Thani in my case?

It is done by immigration division 6 headquarters in Hat Yai that is responsible for south Thailand.
