Popular Post RichardColeman Posted September 12, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 12, 2022 I'd say looking at those numbers and those countries , tourism is a complete and utter pathetic disaster. Malaysia , Laos, Cambodia and vietnam all being in the top 7 countries. Not exactly tourists I imagine, spending money in tourist area - if they knocked off people coming in for work I dare say arrivals in July are under 500K. 17 1

Popular Post edogthong Posted September 12, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 12, 2022 Those who were here in 2008/2009 will remember the huge impact that financial crisis had on the tourism sector. I'm not just talking numbers of tourists but more importantly the amount of money spent by each tourist. Thailand was flooded with bacbackers buying their booze in 7elevens and getting drunk in their bungalows instead of spending their money in bars. I remember talking to one realtor who went from selling on average one property every day during high season the year prior to selling one single property during the entire following high season. According to him, a lot of it had to do with the sellers who refused to follow the market and had been accustomed to their properties skyrocketing in value every year. Still, the impact of that financial crisis was enormous and it took years for Thailand to recover. Just imagine how long it will take this time. I'm sure there will be an improvement from last year but it won't be near enough. Prepare for a lot more of your favorite businesses shutting shop forever. 8 3

The #8 in arrivals, Americans, have plenty of gas at home. Half of it comes from Donald Trump's mouth, but that's more than enough to keep our heating bills low. And if not, we head to points south like Miami or--Better Call Saul!--southern New Mexico. 11 hours ago, 3NUMBAS said: wont be any farangs till the debts have been paid and they will be large gas bills for yearrs to come

Popular Post Sydebolle Posted September 13, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 13, 2022 Of the 49'000+ Laotians a mere few percent, if at all, made it beyond Makro, Big C, Lotus's and some DIY-stores in Nong Khai mega city. While they certainly spend ....... ahem burn ....... money on shopping, the traditional tourism industry of hotels, sightseeing, wine and dine remain completely untouched by them. Apart from emptying the shelves in supermarkets, the Laotians (at least the upper crust in their Toyota Prados and LandCruisers, Range Rovers, Jaguars and other SUVs) fill up petrol on leaving Thailand. Congratulations are in order for the Tourism Authority of Thailand for getting people dumping some money, despite not having done a single thing for this kind of (presently only) traffic from Laos. 3 1

And neither do other tourists. The duty is just too high. People with money are not stupid. They can get the same bag in Singapore for less than half of what the cost is here. I have rarely ever seen anyone in one of those boutiques here. Same goes for fine wine. The numskulls who created these taxes simply priced themselves out of the market. 12 1 6

Farangs are told by their own gov to stay home due to covid. Also inflation is 6 to 10%. Farang leaders ruined their economies. Farangs are second guessing what to do. Thailand is cheaper now than 5 years ago in terms of hotel deals. So many bargains. 3

The actual, real "financial crisis" for Thailand and others was from 1997 onwards. They even call it the "tom yang koong" crisis, in honour of Thailand's leading role. Rakesh Saxena is even back on the front pages today.
Popular Post shackleton Posted September 13, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 13, 2022 Considering the majority of Malaysian tourists are coming through the border near Hat Yai probably on a daily basis Let's have the numbers arriving at the International Airports for a truer figure of Arrivals coming to spend their money on hotels. Restaurants ect ???? 4

And as if you believe the world's only farang are western Europeans. And as if western European farangs are somehow important peop.e. I won't list all the errors, but Malaysians, previously Malayans and thus including everyone from Singapore, have been the Number One tourist arrivals for more than 50 years. Closer to 70, actually, since credible figurues don't go back beyond that. 2 1
