Popular Post webfact Posted September 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 16, 2022 Picture: Thai Rath The central criminal court has handed down the death sentence to a woman known as "Mae Puk" in the media. Natthiwan was given seven other aliases by the court as they considered charges under human trafficking legislation for assault causing death, attempted murder and fraud. The court heard how Natthiwan had taken over the care of a 4 year old girl from the mother. Then starting in 2015 she started feeding the child floor cleaner to make her pitiable and sick. The child developed severe intestinal problems, high blood pressure and was coughing blood. She was taken into hospital as the foster mother went on Facebook to get donations for her "sick child", reported Thai Rath. Worse was yet to come. Between September 2017 and May 2020 she started feeding floor cleaner to her own two year old son. Donations to help him came from other plaintiffs in the shocking case. The judgment decided that despite help given to the police the charges were of sufficient severity to justify the death penalty in the death of the first child. She was also given a life sentence for the attempted murder of her son and ordered to return just over 40,000 baht to people who gave her money. Her sentence was topped up by a further 30 years by the fraud charges related to begging for money under false pretences. Thailand is one of 54 nations around the world that has the death penalty on the books and sporadically uses it, notes ASEAN NOW. The last time it was used was in June 2018 (using the lethal injection method) and there are thought to be around 500 prisoners in Thailand on death row. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-16 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Popular Post AsianAtHeart Posted September 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 16, 2022 Hers was not a crime of ignorance. She was deliberately injuring and killing others for personal pecuniary gain. Nor do I read any indication of remorse or apology on her part. Deplorable! Her sentence appears well justified, and will hopefully deter others who might think to do likewise. 30 9 7

Popular Post NativeBob Posted September 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 16, 2022 Too much for peace-loving thais, but it doesn't seem unusual ever since. She thought about this unthinkable cruelty as a "lifehack" of easy money. And yet this story is sickening. 11
Popular Post Gecko123 Posted September 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 16, 2022 I sometimes think crimes against children committed by mothers don't get the societal attention they deserves. That she did this not only to her own child but to a child who was entrusted to her care borders on the unspeakable. I do have to wonder though whether the woman underwent any type of psychological evaluation prior to sentencing. Her behavior sounds somewhat like "factitious disorder imposed on another (previously called Munchausen syndrome by proxy) when someone falsely claims that another person has physical or psychological signs or symptoms of illness, or causes injury or disease in another person with the intention of deceiving others." https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/factitious-disorder/symptoms-causes/syc-20356028 8

webfact Posted September 16, 2022 Author Posted September 16, 2022 Woman sentenced to death for poisoning her own children Thailand’s Criminal Court sentenced a woman to death yesterday (Thursday) after finding her guilty of poisoning her own 2-year-old son and 4-year-old adopted daughter with an abrasive substance, to make them sick so she could appeal to the public for donations on social media to help the sick children. The adopted daughter died due to the poisoning. The 29-year-old single mother, identified as Nittha, aka “Mae Pook”, was charged with attempted murder, human trafficking, assault causing serious injury, assault causing the death of another person, defrauding the public and violations of the Computer Crime Act. The case dates back four years, when the woman took her 4-year-old daughter to Thammasat University Hospital for medical treatment after she developed acute stomach ache and began vomiting blood. Just hope this is dealt with very very slowly, give her a lot of time in Solitary confinement to reflect on what she has done, then send her out into general population making sure every knows what she did, She won't last long...........No Peace for Her 7 1

It's probably less of a deterrence than life in a Thai prison but at least she could never harm anyone again. What to do in cases like this possibly involving mental issues is never going to have a perfect solution and I am glad I don't have that responsibility. However I will say capital punishment should only be used in cases where guilt is beyond doubt as some people on death row have been found innocent. She may have been coerced or be taking the blame for someone else.

Plus capital punishment doesn't prevent deaths and isn't a deterrent. Yes it maybe justice for some but I always felt it is an easy way out. Hard Labour, with the proceeds going to the families victims until the day they die would have more value than a quick way out by death. Just an opinion. 1 1 1

Death sentence can be turned into life imprisonment, which can be turned into 30 years, which can be turned to early release, etc. By stacking things up, you basically try to prevent this person going free. And even then they might. 4 1

Regardless, she killed a little kid that was entrusted to her, she used the child for money, the child suffered for years before dying, and this evil woman deserves her life be cut short. If it were up to me, I would treat her the same way she did the little girl, serve her poison, let her die a slow and painful death. The above said, an eye for an eye, is an eye for an eye, regardless if it deters others, justice served, a life for a life, why because it was a deliberate, callus act on an innocent child, no doubt she cuddled the child when she was suffering, which would have made it worse, showing the child that she was caring for her when in fact she was killing her. Death by low doses of poison till her intestines can't take it anymore. 5 1 2

Popular Post spidermike007 Posted September 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 16, 2022 I consider the death penalty to be an excellent alternative to housing someone in a prison for the rest of their lives. It should end up costing the state far less, and it cleans up the oxygen in the process. Why should a person this toxic continue to have the right to consume oxygen? Just be rid of her. And make it happen quickly. 7 1 2

You might be surprised how many mothers kill their children. Like the mother who drove her three kids to a lake, and made the car go into and sink the lake and drowned them. I can’t imagine the thoughts in the children’s minds when they realized what what happening to them……done to then by their own mother. Or mothers who drown their kids in the bathtub. Drowning seems to be a favourite with for women to get rid of children. And then there’ Casey Anthony…. Simply horrifying and evil. 1 1

I follow crime related current events and have noticed the drowning pattern as well. My theory is that from a psychological standpoint, drowning provides an "intervening event" which helps the mother cope with the guilt of killing the child. https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/french-woman-who-left-baby-to-drown-gets-20-years-in-jail-1423150 https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/14/nyregion/erin-merdy-coney-island.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrea_Yates https://edition.cnn.com/2022/07/07/us/minnesota-children-drowned/index.html 1
