Is there any more information about the cause of the accident beyond simply that the motorcyclist appears to have lost control on the curve?

Was the roadway wet and slippery?  Was the van parked unexpectedly in the lane?  Did one or the other of the vehicles cross into the oncoming lane, and if so, which one?

It would sure be nice to have at least a basic idea of why it happened included in the article.  If these facts are not known because the surviving witnesses are not talking, they lend themselves to suspicion as being at fault.

From the linked article:  "Witnesses told The Phuket Express that the Russian motorbike rider had lost control at the curve before crashing into the minivan. However, police are continuing their investigation."  Just looking at the photo the road is wet and the motorcycle is on the wrong side of the road.

I think the better question is:  Was he wearing a helmet?

Those uphill roads needs some practice or the bike will turn to much

to satisfy your curiosity friend, you will need to go to the Police Station from which the attending office is stationed and inquire there. If you are family of the deceased I'm sure they will assist you; if not then you will have to keep speculating!

trouble is many drivers in Thailand cut these corners and cross over the centre lines, I have almost been cleaned up by cars, bikes and trucks so many times when they cut corners going to the right, it appears to be common practice with them and they dont care if cars etc are on the other sides of the road. Staying in your own lane just doesnt happen with many road users here, bike may well have lost control but may also have been unable to avoid someone cutting into his lane seeing it  is the front right corner of the van that is smashed in

My money is on NOT given description of injuries. Can’t understand that - I put full face helmet and gloves even if going 1 kilometre,it’s 20 seconds of your life …

While the van cutting the corner was my initially suspicion as a contributory factor... the photo shows the van to the very left of his own lane....

The Motorcycle on the wrong side of the road.

There is no indication that the van cut any corner in this case. It would simply appear that the motorcyclists was descending the hill too fast on a wet road and lost control hitting the van.

Also without a helmet.

A perfectly avoidable incident if driving with caution, and likely an avoidable death if only for a helmet.

There are always one or two posters who throw out the same or similar comments in such threads and use terms such as....  Arm-chair-detectice... Keyboard CSI etc...

... some even take one step further and accuse the poster of ’speculating - were you there?’’... etc etc...

Have you completely missed the fact that this is a forum the very purpose of which is discussion?

If you don’t want discussion, questions, opinions etc...  read the news !!

On of the reason I am interested in such topics is the debate, the theories, the speculation, the discussion...
