Ebay in Thailand

Featured Replies

Hoping for some input with this.

I signed up for an ebay account to sell a few things thinking it would be straight forward. But it seems that there isn't a site specific to Thailand. Everything appears to be in USD and when I sell it seems you're also paid in USD. Why on earth would I want paying in USD when I'm in Thailand?!

All a bit odd. So my question is, can I sell on ebay.com in Thailand and get paid in thai baht, as their customer service team behave like politicians when they try to answer what are simple questions!

>>Why on earth would I want paying in USD when I'm in Thailand?!

When you pay in USD, the conversion is done by your local bank transparent for you. No matter what country you're in.

If you prefer in local currency, the conversion is done by the site (or its payment system). The rate may be (and often is) disadvantageous for you.

If you want something specific to Thailand in THB, consider using Kaidee

Ebay is not very popular (or usable) in Thailand.  For selling - try Facebook marketplace , or even Bahtsold.   For buying - previous 2 & Lazada.

I have had an Ebay account for 20 years, but find it not much chop here in Thailand. Delivery fees and methods, and taxes and duties tend to be the killers.  Also with upcoming changes to PayPal (ie its death for non-Thai 'residents' in LOS) - payments will be more fiddly...

Cheers

Of course its a disadvantage. Hence my statement.

Not to mention, I want nothing to do with the USD or the US for that matter.

Kaidee, hmm, haven't heard of that before. Thanks. I will have to check that out. Is it ok for high value stuff? And most of all, is it safe?

Im starting to think the same now. Its a mess isn't it. Probably not worth the hassle.

baht sold seems ok and a lot better for f2f sales. Thanks for that heads up!

Ebay become so convoluted and complicated to use specially after their new payment system payoneer, but they're the bosses, if you want to use them you need to follow their rules and you wil learn after a while...

Lots of fake <deleted> on that there Baht Sold for any unsuspecting buyers! Reminds me of gumtree or Loot. Anyone remember them?

So was it easier for thai sellers when they had PayPal?

Does this forum have a sales section by any chance?

Only in the Motor section I think…

I will search EBay sometimes when searching for car parts, or electrical items. Often what I am looking for will not be sent to Thailand.  However, after finding what I am looking for, I will often get links to Lazada or Shoppee with the same item. Their search engines are not too flash in English - but the (scary) wonder that is Google helps make the connection for me.

In Australia, I was quite happy with EBay - as a buyer, and a seller. In LOS, I have learned to live without it.  The imminent changes to PayPal will be the final nail in the coffin ⚰️..

Its difficult getting stuff here, I admit. Thats the most frustrating thing about living here. Wish we had Amazon Prime!

I hated PayPal. Complete crooks!

I keep hoping to find some big electrical chain where you can buy PS5 and games etc. Seems like they just dont exist outside of the smoke.

Agreed!  But for me was convenient to use for some recurring payments and subscriptions. It meant i could use a credit card, without divulging all of my account information. I might have to investigate to see if there are any other options for this.

Don't forget either, eBay charge 13.4% commission on all sales, very greedy!

Hi.  You will find a lot of info on this thread.  You can also go to Paypal site & look up FAQ.  Cheers

I dont have an issue with that - just the cost of doing business. Do you work for free?

Why do you say that they are complete crooks?
