Unfortunately 2000/2001 was a model change year for the Audi A4 in Europe. You need to find out which engine is fitted, as prior to the model change two different 1600 cc engines were used although both are Volkswagen based. If you are lucky to have the 1800 cc engine then this is pure VW Passat. I am pretty sure your car will be a pre 2001 car as Audi had announced the series two and needed somewhere to offload the discontinued model. Personally I would investigate the starter to try and find a model number to see if it was fitted to any other car particularly the VW group. I assume you have done all the checks and are 100% it is the starter and not a relay or solonoid or ring gear fault.

One of several different starters will be fitted - there are variations according to manufacturing date, engine code and man/auto transmission. You need the VAG part number from the existing starter. The part number will be of the form (example): 068 911 024 G
