Costs of a premarital agreement in Thailand

I'm getting married soon and want to have a prenup.

I think it should be fairly standard. We want to separate all assets acquired before and after marriage to the extend the law allows it.

Can anyone advise the best/cheapest way to go about it?

Also, say I do go to a law firm and have them do everything. Can anyone break down which services they generally want to sell me and which of these I can potentially handle on my own?

Thanks.

Why?  Will you not have a plan B or Plan C.  Say it does go pear shaped then Thai law already provides for the assets obtain before the marriage as going to those who owned them prior to marriage.  Anything obtained during the marriage is split 50/50. Unless you are a Millionaire and have funds elsewhere you are trying to shield, well that there is another issue all unto it's own.

I agree with the previous poster. Despite popular bar stool opinion to the contrary, Thai divorce law does offer most of the protection that everyday people need and the system does work, even for foreigners.

can you read or write thai?

if you can handle the contract in thai, you can handle a lot of stuff the lawyer will be trying to sell you on your own, or a thai lawyer that your potential spouse might know without english language skill won't overcharge you as much on

give her everything but enough for a one way ticket out of here. god i hope my wife isn't reading this.

good luck in your new life here.

If one thinks that one Needs a Prenup then one is Scared , Don't get Married, then one owns All the assets .

That's already covered by the law. Another poster already said it, but I'm just reinforcing. You can waste your money with a lawyer if you want. Up to you.

As for land, if you give your wife money to buy it, she doesn't have to give you 50% when the marriage fails as you never owned it.

Great to see that you trust your new partner implicitly, your lawyer will probably be just as trustworthy also chok dii khrab/sok dii dur (in case she is Isaan?) ????

I don't think in 2023  time frame it's fair to think a prenup portrays a lack of trust.  It's just plain smart.   50% end in divorce.   Do you bet it all on the roulette wheel. Red or black?

"Can anyone advise the best/cheapest way to go about it?"

Yea ... don't get married.  Ask yourself, 'Why are you getting married ?"

I can't think of 1 advantage, except if you can't afford a retirement visa or younger than 50.  Which case, rent rent rent.  Easy to keep everything separate.

If you have that much equity/assets that you're worried about, just get the elite visa, if not old enough for retirement visa.
