Legal abortions to be available at 110 locations in Thailand from Oct 27th

From October 27th, women in Thailand in their 12th to 20th weeks of pregnancy can get an abortion legally at any of the 110 hospitals and clinics offering the services across the country, subject to prior consultation with experts.

 

The legal terminations are in line with an edict issued by the Ministry of Public Health regarding examinations and consultations. The change is intended to address the problem many women face when they feel they are not ready to have a child, but do not have a channel through which they can seek consultation.

 

Dr. Boonyarit Sookrat, director of the Bureau of Reproductive Health at the Department of Health, said that the Public Health Ministry’s edict on abortions had been approved by the Thai Medical Council and is in line with the constitutional principle that an individual has rights and liberties over their life and body. He also pointed out that the doctors performing abortions within the new regulations will not be subject to legal action for performing a termination.

Why only the 12th week forward? I think it should be the opposite. Legal up to the 12th week. Anyone can decide by then.

Abortions up to 12 weeks are already legal in Thailand. This new law increases the legal limit up to 20 weeks.

Have you ever watched how abortion is done. There used to be YouTube videos, but now it’s been censored.

 

The executioner uses a huge suringe and stabes it into the soft part of the skull and then sucks out the baby’s brain. Next, the executioner turns the baby, feet first and then yanks the baby out - barbaric and sinister process.

 

 The left is always lecturing about following the science. The science tells us that a baby’s heart ❤️ is beating at ~ 8 weeks and the baby can feel pain at 20 weeks.

if the foetus is less than 20 weeks and 3 days, it is deemed not capable of sustaining life outside of the womb.

It is not a child, it is a fetus.. learn the difference... and what the hell does politics have to do with this ??

to make abortions cost effective, in the case of single mothers, perhaps the authorities should recover the expense from the guy who put it in there and then abandoned her.

I agree with you. My belief is that once the brain turns on and brain waves can be detected, you’re dealing with an individual SENTIENT human being.  At that point, aborting the baby is MURDER.

It’s a baby.   Ever notice how the terminology changes depending on whether the parents want it or not?  All through pregnancy, the parents who want it call it “the baby”. “Honey, the test is positive, our baby is beginning to grow inside me. We’re going to be parents. Let’s call everyone and celebrate. I’m so happy”

 

  And later,..”Put your hand here honey, you can feel the baby move”.    “Yes honey, I’m awake…our baby is very active.”

 

  On the other hand, if a woman DOES NOT want it…..it’s not a baby anymore. It’s just an embryo or a fetus, the “product of conception” an “it” or a “thing” to be ripped out and disposed of in a special furnace as medical waste. 
 

Changing the words you use, in order to dehumanize the baby, helps to relieve the well deserved feeling of guilt in murdering it.

Mixed thoughts on the matter.  

 

Life starts at conception IMHO, and those cells start splitting.  Personally against abortions, but also against telling someone else what to do with their body.

 

Before going under the procedure, they should be made to watch a vid of the procedure.  So it, the decision to proceed, doesn't haunt them in the future when the realize what they've actually done.

 

Legalized, is simply the best of 2 evils.

If you insist on calling it murder, call it murder. Doesn’t make any difference because whatever you call it there is a difference between  a fetus and after a person is born.

I think all adults should watch videos of early and late term abortions.

just so they know what they are saying yes or no to.

Good move. Although this will not make a huge amount of difference as those seeking abortions in this period are normally due to medical reasons and the expert medical opinion needed helps to determine that and whether it is necessary.

 

Currently  92.7% of abortions were performed at below 13 weeks, with 65 percent occurring within the first eight weeks.

There are no explicit prohibitions of a woman's ability to abort under Islamic law, although various sects are either permissive or forbid it. It seems Judaism and Christianity are the principal opponents.

Personally, I believe it is the woman's decision, which is usually based on the unwillingness to bring up a child in poverty, and men should stay the hell out of it.

I think up to the 12th week is already legal & in place but this new arrangement is for as stated after the 12th week. The article should read that but typical Thai reporting !! 12 - 20 weeks is usually for medical reasons which makes sense and should be a woman's right globally if you ask me.

Not equivalent. Judaism is much less restrictive than Christianity. Basically, and correctly based on simple logic, in Jewish tradition fetuses are not give as high a status as those that have been born.

What a lot of scare mongering, I have seen a few and it is nothing like that.  Many years ago I, as a paramedic, had to take a 16 year old girl to hospital following her attempt to cause an abortion as she was scared of her parents finding out. She died screaming in pain, as we carried her into the hospital, from septicemia and you want others to do the same. Get real.
