Concerns voiced over COVID Deltacron XBC sub-variant

Scientists all over the world have been keeping a close eye on a new COVID-19 variant, which is a hybrid of the Delta and Omicron variants and is capable of attacking the lungs, like Delta, and is as easily transmissible as Omicron, according to the Centre for Medical Genomics at Mahidol University.

The hybrid, which is called Deltacron, has mutated into several sub-variants, namely XBC, XAY, XBA and XAW, especially XBC, which has registered 130 mutations.

The centre said that Deltacron was detected in the Philippines early this year and then quickly disappeared. It has since re-emerged in various sub-variants.

In a worst case scenario, the centre said that Deltacron may be as deadly as Delta, which has killed about 3.4% of those infected, which is twice the fatality rate of Omicron, citing a report published in Nature Reviews Immunology.

A university in US managed to combine original Wuhan virus with Omicron, to make it as easy to transmit as Omicron, but has 80% fatality rate (they tested this on mice, where omicron killed none, this virus killed 8/10). I just wonder with the news like this hitting the internet, and knowing how unprotected university labs are - how long would it take before that samples are stolen and distributed to public by some doomsday preacher.

It would be a perfect time for that as well, since we're now in "mai pen rai" ignorance period, where people are fed up listening about it and downplay it. Actually, if that uni lab could do it, how difficult would it be for some threat actor else to do the same?

Reuters ran a fact check on that story... unfortunately I cannot quote from it due to copyright reasons, but you can read it here.

Reuters as a reliable source to fact check?

????

Who owns Reuters?

Stop reading mainstream media.

It's a one-way traffic.

Do your own research

I do. Reuters is an old finance reporting company. Always been good. You don't even know who owns them.

Why do I only ever learn about new covid subvariants from the Thailand news?

Has the fearmongering stopped in the rest of the world?

Yes. The rest of the world has stopped fear mongering.

Thailand is one of a handful of countries in the world still reporting Covid on the front pages.

They also are one of a handful of countries where mass masking is still common.
