snoop1130 Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 For the first time since before the Covid-19 pandemic flights directly from Moscow to U-Tapao airport near Pattaya resume Saturday, November 26th. According to Pattaya mayor Poramese Ngampiches, this is welcomed by authorities and should see significant increases in Russian tourists locally. The relaunch of local direct flights from Russia will be spearheaded by flight ZF2847 arriving at U-Tapao this weekend. Russian tourists have taken over as the number one tourist in Phuket, according to authorities there, driven by direct daily flights. Pattaya has seen many more Russian visitors in the past few weeks but Indian tourists continue to be number one locally. chickenslegs Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 From a selfish point of view, it's been great to have fewer foreign tourists in and around Pattaya for the past couple of years. Those Pegas tour buses were a proper PITA. But, one has to feel happy for the many businesses (big and small) that invested in tourism attractions only to suddenly lose most of their customers, through no fault of their own. 2

I was irritated by one of those huge coaches turning into 3rd off Klang only yesterday.. they are too big for most of the roads. I noticed this one was just plain white and no markings whatsoever... have all the old Pegus coaches been taken off the parking by the Railway Line Bypass Rd, been given a lick of paint and put to other duties? 1
Popular Post Bangkok Barry Posted November 24, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 24, 2022 Most countries have banned Russian airlines, as far as I know. But, as usual in Thailand, money rules over anything else. Most countries though have adopted a policy of inconveniencing Russians, ordinary people, in the hope that they will rebel against their 'troublesome' leaders. Can't fly anywhere and can't use their credit cards even if they could, that kind of thing. Fat chance of any protests succeeding, but at least an effort is being made. 3 4
Popular Post KhunBENQ Posted November 25, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 25, 2022 Details wrong as can be. I better trust flightstats. No flights from Moscow but three flights from Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and Krasnojarsk tomorrow Nov 26th. AZUR airline code is KTK. "AZ" is phantasy. AZUR air owned by a Turkish(!) tourism group. Would you love to be in Novosibirsk for winter ???? 2 1

IAMHERE Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 How do they spend if their credit cards don't work? Are they all carrying cash ? Don't tell me the Russians also run Zero Cash tours. 1

bamnutsak Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 I don't think these are daily flights. Novosibirsk is 2X weekly, SA WE. Operated with a B757. Not sure about Krasnoyarsk, can't find any future schedule other than today's flight. Could be a 1X weekly, operated with a B767. So maybe not a "significant increase" in Russian tourists? There are some flights from SVO, but not dailies AFAIK. 3X/4X weekly. B777.

Are you sure? It might be difficult to find up-to-date information but not all of the world has joined the European sanctions. Some are more than eager to buy their oil and gas. Saudis buy cheap Russian oil for their own consumption and sell the Saudi oil for high prices at the world market. Just one example. India very high on the list of countries increasing business with Russia. China anyway. Turkey... Some countries are impractical to reach due to airspace ban in Europe/US.

mikebell Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 Many of them will be young men fleeing conscription. Bad news for ex-pat retirees who have been strutting their stuff, Travolta-like, for years. 1
brewsterbudgen Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 Good to see things slowly getting back to normal. 1

Of course it's because of border controls being dropped and the many Thai temptations. Better than being on the front line with winter coming.
bangon04 Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 We look forward to the day when China gets its 99 year lease on U-Tapao (and Sattahip) 1 1
