Hello there,

Some months ago, I was travelling in Thailand for 7 weeks. Beginning of September I'm planning to leave Belgium and go and find a job on Koh Samui.

Why Koh Samui?

I never visited the island (just Koh Tao and Koh Pangan), but I think it's much easier to find a job on Samui because of the touristical attraction of Samui. The more tourists, the more jobs...

I also meat some nice locals on Koh Pangan who I really want to visit again.

I'm very interested in information and stories from people who did the same in the past or people who are still working there or in another place in Thailand.

What are the most interesting branches to work in (diving schools, shops, hotels,...)? How much does it pay? I'm used to organise things for work...are there for example travelling offices who need somebody to help with organisation? My languages are pretty good. I speek dutch (mothertongue), french, english and the basics of german. This knowledge may help me finding a job...

Is it true that working for Farang pays more then working for Thai?

Any suggestions about low cost flights from Europe to Bangkok?

I still need to look for more info about working visa for Thailand> Can you help me, please?

If anybody already knows some places where I can find an interesting job? Shoot!

Hope to learn a lot from the responses I get...

Greetings.

well Toko, me personally I do not at all intend to do (any kind of) work on Samui but I can tell you ... do not expect too much of responses here. I recently asked for info about ...what is going on in Samui these days... and responses so far are very limited. Imho, Samui is NOT that busy and tourism seems to decrease. I do not think it's gonna be that easy (as u assume) to have a good paid job, especially not in tourism. On the other hand .... if you do not try ---- you will never know, right? :o

well Toko, if you happen to be a high class F & B - or hotel manager, you might find a well paid job. Otherwise I am afraid you will have to open your own business with all the unforseen and forseen problems. To give you a proper answer you should give more details about you and your intentions respectively your professional ideas.

Thanks for your replies.

For a start, Koh Samui is just one of the possibilities. Thailand is much bigger then this Island. A friend of mine went to Samui a couple of years ago with the same aim and she was very positive about it. She said finding a job isn't that difficult, especially with the knowledge of dutch, english, french and german.

Of course everybody intends to earn as much as possible doing a job, but that's not my main aim. I have to be realistic about working in Thailand. In the beginning, without any experience working there, I just have to look for any kind of work.

In Belgium, I was working for four years in the media, mostly for television as an organisor (producer/assistent-producer) and also in the music business. These experiences won't help me to find a job there, but during these jobs I learned to take care of things, a lot of times things I never done before. Looking for sponsors, arrange facilities, making schedules,... Doing these jobs, I had to use my languages and had to work with people from different nationalities (not with Thai though). That must be an advantage because of the diversity of nationalities in Thailand.

By posting on this forum, I was trying to get some info from people who did the same thing, leaving home to find a job over there. During my visit to Thailand the beginning of this year, I learned that info from 'people who have been there' is the most valuable.

If you, Joinme2leave, say that I won't get a lot of replies on this forum, have you got other suggestions, please? I just started looking for info for two days. A bit of help is always welcome... Maybe also other suggestions about branches that are the best to look for a job?

Anyway, I think the best way is just to go for it, get the first job you can and than open your eyes and ears and learn about it.

Greetings.
