Popular Post webfact Posted December 14, 2022 Popular Post Posted December 14, 2022 by TNR Staff RESIDENTS in Chiang Mai are perplexed at the authorities digging up footpaths to lay water pipes during high season which endangers tourists and locals alike, Sanook.com said today (Dec. 14). This northern city is currently full of tourists but a Tiktok user highlighted the danger they face by posting photos of foreign tourists walking down partly dug up footpaths with difficulty with some of them jumping over the rubble and others almost stumbling. Residents questioned why this project was not undertaken during normal times when there are not so many tourists around. They also pointed out that everything was very quiet for two years during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic which was when this sort of utility project should have been launched. Elkski Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Was any infrastructure improvement done last 2 years. For ditches it's best not to do during rainy season 1
bkk6060 Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Same mess in Pattaya digging stuff up, Could be a budget issues. In western countries budgets are allocated for certain projects with a drop dead date if the funds are not used, they go away. Not sure Thailand is that sophisticated. In any event, lots of issues out there in these busy toruist areas. 2
Popular Post ezzra Posted December 14, 2022 Popular Post Posted December 14, 2022 Go and have a look at Pattaya that the main thoroughfares have been extensively dug up for years now, high seasons or not... 1 2 1
HaoleBoy Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 It's not just the dug up footpaths, but the L lane is coned off to traffic causing additional traffic problems during the day. I'm not sure when the work is completed each day, but hopefully before school lets out in the afternoons. Previously I thought CM had done a great job of resurfacing busy streets during the pandemic and I applauded them ....
ChrisY1 Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 The authorities always seem to do this at inopportune times...whether to annoy residents by showing their authority....or because of Monet reasons. With tourism struggling everywhere....adding to travellers inconvenience is not the way to do things. And we all know what happens in the end....after months of delays..budgets exhausted...the works are never completed properly....and don't talk about the clean up! 1

Yes, one theory is that when it creates a fuss like now, during high season, the contractor offers to get is sorted out, obviously for an additional fee.
cowellandrew Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 It's an add on for the medical tourism, come visit Thailand break a leg and visit one of our wonderful hospitals! ☻☻☻ 1
sqwakvfr Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 I just walked or navigated through this mess to and from the gym. This also makes vehicle traffic worse. As usual the work had not started as of 0830. TIT 1

Partenavia Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Chiang Rai has a similar problem, all the roads are being concreted, main roads approaching from the South are a nightmare, started in October, doubt whether they will finish before March. It's been the same every year for the past 5 in different areas. Absolutely no notice is taken regarding the plight of traders effected, or the time of year it's done.

Hanuman2547 Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Would have been better to have waited until at least the end of February. Gives you all of March and April although you do run into the Songkran holidays/horrordays.
