This is nothing unusual.  It’s common practice for food establishments to have photos that look much better than reality.  It shouldn’t be.  But that’s the way it is. Not just Thailand.
For example a sandwich place.  The sandwiches in the photos look enormous. But in reality the amount of fillings are much less than in the photo.

I can kinda grasp how bored Thai housewives find this interesting, but foreign expats?

Go to ANY McDonald's. Buy a Big Mac. Hold it in your hand, then look at the picture of it on the menu. They don't even look like distant cousins.

I'd rather not, thanks anyway.

Nothing will change till places are named and ...  (I wanted to add 'shamed' but this is not a common emotion here.)

If that's the case, shouldn't be surprised as to what banal and trivial items your beloved foreign expats might find stimulating.

This venue is a perfect mirror for such comparisons.

What's your point?

Jetski weekend in Jomtien, noticed a cart selling barbecue ribs. 50 grams for 100 baht. That's 1.76 ounces. It would take two + orders to make a "quarter pounder"
