Popular Post Scott Posted January 1, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 1, 2023 Former President Donald Trump has appeared to float the idea of running a third-party campaign if increasingly disgruntled Republican leaders don’t get behind his 2024 run for the presidency. Trump signaled the possibility by posting an article on Truth Social Wednesday ― “The Coming Split,” by Dan Gelernter, in the right-wing journal American Greatness ― promoting just such an option. Gelernter believes such a move would torpedo Trump’s chances of winning the White House. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-third-party-angry-at-gop_n_63afcfd9e4b0ae9de1b7140f 3

Popular Post Tug Posted January 1, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 1, 2023 That would be an great Donnie it’s a great idea lmao yea sure it’s a real winner lmao but I suspect the reality is Donnie is trying to threaten the rest of the Republican Party by splitting their base 4 2
Popular Post gargamon Posted January 1, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 1, 2023 Sounds a lot like all the threats coming out of Putin. Please Donald, do this. Split the Republican vote and guarantee some sanity in the future with Democrats guaranteed to be running things. 9 1
Popular Post Eric Loh Posted January 1, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 1, 2023 Loving every bit of Trump’s antic. Republican created this monster and now have to deal with it. He will not go away amicably and the GOP will be badly bruised going into the 2024 election. Happy days for the Dems, the progressive and the liberals. 5 1
KhunLA Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 That would pretty much guarantee another Dem president. No matter what idiot they run. Can you imagine another 4 yrs of Biden, or even Harris as president. Biden or Harris vs Desantis (or Cruz, Rubio) vs Trump = Dem win I actually prefer things to remain as they are, or even get worse in the USA. I know, selfish, by my friends & family have nothing to worry about, all self sufficient in their finances. COLA is about all I care about, and has been excellent with Dems in charge, along with exchange rate.

ThailandRyan Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 Shades of Ross Perot....sinking the Republicans. A heavy independent, if that's how Trump runs, will make the election a loosing effort for the Republicans 2

Trump could not but I wish he does anyway. Ultimately I think even the majority of Trumpians would jump ship when the see he is a loser because they aren't known for adherence to principles.

bendejo Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 Has anybody tried buying him outright? A billion $$$ if he doesn't run, payable November 6th 2024. On the subject of campaign finance, there was something about a 2020 campaign manager named Brad Parscale who suddenly started accumulating expensive sports cars, yachts, and so on. He left the campaign under a cloud. Haven't heard his name mentioned since.
ningnong Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 It's been suggested he might try this ploy. Threaten to split the party then later back another republican candidate (DeSantis?) with a guarantee of presidential pardon when elected. 1 1

Desantis accepting Trump’s support for 2024 comes with bags of risks. He will be perceived by the general population as subscribing to Trumpism politics of election denialism, anti trade and anti immigrants which have cost the GOP to lose 3 elections. It will not heal the fractures in the party. A clean cut from Trump is better for Desantis. Personally I doubt Trump has the humility to pledge his support for Desantis and beg for a pardon. Just not Trump. 2

Popular Post Chomper Higgot Posted January 1, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 1, 2023 So let’s quit with the pretense that the GOP aren’t praying for the DOJ to take Trump out of the equation. So much easier than facing the fact that this is a mess of their own making. They had two chances to convict him in impeachment and twice declined the gift in their hand. 7 1

DeSantis won't be the nominee because his shtick won't fly outside of Magaland any more than Trump's did. 1

I see no reason why Desantis or someone like him won't win the nomination. 1
