Trump loses again in yet another court fight over Mar-a-Lago documents scandal

The New York Times reports that Beryl A. Howell, the chief judge of the Federal District Court in Washington, rules that the former president's lawyers have to hand over the names of private investigators whom they claimed conducted searches of Trump properties for additional classified documents.

 

According to the Times, the Department of Justice wants the names of the investigators so it can question them personally on their findings.

 

"The fact that the Justice Department sought a formal order for the investigators’ names suggests an increasing breakdown in trust between prosecutors investigating the documents case and Mr. Trump’s legal team," the paper writes.

For six years (and counting!) we saw this scofflaw pushing at the rules with no reprimand beyond the certain press outlets saying "ooo!  Look what he did now!"  And after each move he upped the stakes with something even bolder.  As I was saying during the time they were giving him enough rope.  It's getting close to the noose end. 

Mr Smith has come to Washington.

 

This must have been a rough week for him and the preening peacocks of the Senate, with all the press focused on The House.  Or what should be The House, which does not exist as of this writing.

Quite incredible how Trump's classified documents issue has dropped off the 24/7 news cycle it was on, isn't it? I wonder how that could have happened? Did unpredicted events force the narrative to change dramatically? From the most serious crime possible and a clear danger to US security, to crickets...

 

I am left wondering if the outrage was justified and authentic?

Trump has been rather quiet about it, indeed.

It's now three weeks since the last time he insulted the special counsel. It's unusual.

It would be interesting if there are doc prosecutions, (Nope ain't going to happen) Trump could subpoena Biden since he's such an ardent collector of classified documents that he would make an excellent witness in testifying on how easy it is to “accidentally” wind up with loads full of classified material, how effortlessly it can be lost track of, and how difficult it is to prevent access by a crack addict and foreign agent? Slow Joe claims he knew nothing of these docs while Trump had his docs under lock and key and guarded by the secret service and was in negotiations with NARA. In Biden's case it appears that his docs were locked in a garage accessed/used by his crack addicted son and others stored in a closet at UPenn.

 

If Biden is subpoenaed, he needs to respond and he cannot claim “executive privilege.” A VP is not the head of the Executive Branch and the privileges of that office do not extend to him.

 

This folks is another reason why Trump will never be prosecuted for his current records dispute.

Key point:  Trump knew he had thousands of documents, many of them highly classified, that he had no right to possess and he refused to return them.

 

Funny how you overlooked that.

 

Also, as has been explained many times, the Secret Service was not at Mar-a-Lago to guard classified documents.  They probably didn't know they were there.  Yet you keep repeating the lie that the Secret Service was guarding the classified at Mar-a-Lago.

 

There is a line between willful ignorance and trolling.  You crossed that line long ago.

First off, Trump had no right to be in negotiations with NARA. The laws says hand them over when asked.

Second, he claimed to have handed them all over after the first round of negotiations. NARA got word that this wasn't the case. The Justice Dept subsequently asked to be allowed to search boxes where it was suspected documents that Trump denied having might be stored. That request was refused.

It was only after this that the Justice Dept got its search warrant. It turned out that many of the documents in question were in the box that the Justice Dept requested access to.

By lying to the Justice Dept Trump could be found guilty of obstruction of justice.

Also, willful violation of the law is another crime.

NARA actually allowed him a huge amount of slack by not invoking the legal system immediately once it was established that he willfully refused to turn over the requested documents to NARA. They gave him lots of time to comply.
