Governor Ron DeSantis' administration said the proposed course "lacks educational value and is contrary to Florida law".

The course is being rolled out in a pilot programme by the US College Board to 60 high schools across the country.

I think text like above leaves just too much space for imagination and is almost useless.

Maybe he blocked it because he doesn't want that anybody learn something about slaves or racism.

But maybe he banned it because this specific course was just bad and/or super woke. Maybe it included that all white people should feel guilty for the suppression of all black people or similar BS.

It's also possible that he banned it because i.e. students don't learn enough math and such a new course would take away time from more important courses.

There are lots of possibilities.

Obviously DeSantis has some kind of reputation and that is why we interpret news like that with a bias. And maybe that is correct. But maybe it's not.

America and the world will not improve when everybody from the left thinks all the people on the right always do bad things and the other way around. Let's try to be open minded about what is really going on and why.

There is a good article gentle debunking the disinformation surrounding what the left dishonestly call the "don't say gay bill" which does not include the wording or meaning don't say gay. It is a bill to protect young children in the school system.

I'm not very familiar with the course proposed. Could you elaborate on how it is misleading.

If this course involves racist, divisive topics such as Critical Race Theory then I think it needs to be seriously looked at.

 

Teaching racist theory is not OK just because Caucasians are the subject of the racism.

 

If ever there was a case for banning hate speech, CRT would be number 1 on the list.

This is one specific course only.  There are many African American history classes available in the Florida public school system. I think the article is biased ( as usual ) and leaving a lot out. Just more propaganda. Similar to " Don't say gay" It's cute and it rhymes, that's it. It's not true and gays especially living in Florida and have children in the system know this already. Why are there huge amounts of LGBTQ already living so happily in Florida now? Why do so many keep going there to create their future and others for retirement? It's a gay friendly welcoming place. In Miami there was a proposal to include some information about LGBT HISTORY in the 12th grade!
