Soi 8 is an underrated soi in my opinion. Plenty of good bars and places to stay.

Apart from the Promenade and Asia Lodge, unless you are on a real budget or want to feel like it's the 1980's still. I was with a girl in the Prom in 2001 who told me her dead friend was with us, room looked like a horror movie set as it was, lights flickering and feet sticking to the floor. Stable lodge was better, got taken out by the waitresses to a Siriporn concert at a cafe, then got knocked up next day for the expenses.

you can stay down the soi a bit at Promenade or Asia Lodge, never again!

The Royal Asia Lodge Hotel at the end of the soi -- one of the first places I stayed as a tourist to Thailand many years back -- has been closed for several years, and is listed on Google Maps as "permanently closed."

The Promenade Hotel, about midway down the soi, is back open again lately after closing during the pandemic, but probably was past its "expire" date about a decade ago.

The more active and newer hotels on the soi include the Adelphi, Hopeland, Salil and Citadines. Stable Lodge is a bit of a niche place aimed at Europeans/Nordic folks.

Adelphi is a decent hotel in a good, convenient location, with a good restaurant on-site...

But, that price above (5K+ baht per night) IMHO is pretty excessive for what you get and relative to the broader BKK Hotel market.

Stayed at Asia Lodge 3 years ago, not surprised it's gone, nothing put into maintenance or updating. Only thing I did not like about Adelphi is no double glazing, skimping on costs, but another Indian owned place.

Yes I would never pay that for that place and the breakfast is not the best either. Best breakfasts IMO Amari Boulevard and the Peninsular

There's also an oddly named new place at the very top of the soi called 'lyf Sukhumvit 8" that was built during the pandemic, then had a limited opening just for COVID quarantine guests, and then finally opened for good.

I know absolutely nothing about the place, other than as it was being built, the exterior design and appearance reminded me quite a bit of prison architecture.  However, Google Maps says it's a 4-star  hotel and recent reviews on GM seem generally positive.  The interior design and features seem to me to be, how shall I say, "quirky."

Det 5 is a good place to eat and drink.

If it's the same place, Det 5 has been around since the early 80's at least.

^ I think that was completed way before the pandemic. I used to stand opposite, outside 7-Eleven, waiting for my mate to come driving up the Soi.

If you mean Lyf, the oldest review for them on Trip Advisor is from mid 2020... and the hotel manager there at the time says they were due to open July 31, 2020... which was during the first year of the pandemic.

Though as I mentioned, for a long period thereafter, they had a sign out front saying they were only taking COVID stays.

https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g293916-d20237247-Reviews-or70-Lyf_Sukhumvit_8_Bangkok-Bangkok.html#REVIEWS

Agoda lists them as having opened in 2022, which probably a reflection of when they transitioned from COVID stays to general tourist bookings.

Yes, but no room under 5000 a night now. So too expensive for me now, but I loved it there during Covid. Back to Centerpoint Soi 10; they are a lot more reasonable.

At those prices, a person could stay at the fancier Landmark Hotel on Suk Rd near Soi 6, just a few blocks away.

A bit of trivia, the Landmark Hotel was the first high rise building along Sukhumit Rd in the early 80's. They used bamboo scaffolding to build it.

They hiked the prices a few years (maybe 6 or 7 years back) back by something like 50% but it's very convenient if you like to order restaurant food on room service while staying there and of course it's a proper suite, more like a small apartment.

In looking on Agoda, I'm seeing future Adelphi Suites rooms for under or above 4000b in some cases prior to tax.

The Hope Land Hotel, located about halfway down the soi, has comparably sized rooms for about half the price, generally speaking...

Hope Land started out as a planned condo project, but was converted along the way into a hotel.  Not recommending them, but just pointing out the pricing disparity.

Stayed in The Promenade in February 2007, a budget hotel for 1 night. Also considered Stable Lodge at first even wrote email to them.

Soi 8 seemed to be perfect location: quiet yet close to Nana plaza and skytrain station.

There was also nice 2-storey Spa at the beginning of soi, with waterfall and soothing music - when I visited it first time, 2 girls at the same time were taking care of my legs for some treatment ☺️ it was funny and they giggled all the time.
