It's an extension based on marriage  Don't think "agents" are if any use in this situation !!!

Read my post 4 posts before the one you're quoting.

Not referring to the OP, I changed to extension based on retirement to avoid all the BS involved in marriage extensions

14k lol for one day of getting an extension.

If you like getting stuffed around by Immigration, up to you.

It's not the money, it's being able to avoid going near Immigration

I wonder if 14,000 incudes the government fees?

Do IO visits take place only for visas based on marriage, or also for other types of visas?

It's not unheard off..home visits for extensions based on retirement but  very unusual.

Beside 400k in the bank instead of 800k which is not important for me because I have always way more savings on my account, does the marriage visa having any advantage regarding work permit?

Yes. This is one of the advantages of a marriage extension over a retirement extension. You cannot get a Thai work permit when you are on a retirement extension.

If doing anything that would require a Thai work permit, and you can meet the requirements, also look into the LTR WP (Long Term Resident Wealthy Pensioner) visa.

As I said, the post was specifically titled "Marriage Extension....home visits".

Absolutely nothing to do with Retirement extensions......or agents.

If the OP wants to change to a Retirement extension then that's up to him.

I reiterate my earlier comment that "agents" are worthless for Marriage extensions.

By the way I have never had, in over dozen marriage extensions, an significant "running around" by Immigration and do get a house visit every year.

No big deal!

I certainly cannot name one.

I don't know any agents that do extensions based on marriage.

Sure there are ones that do hand holding exercise  but that's about it.

Based solely on my own experience, given that every page is stamped AFTER initial submission by the office, then handed back to you to print your full name and sign each and every piece. I don't see where an Agent in that process would any use at all. Of course others may have different story.

Most agents will not handle marriage extensions, or will only help you a little with the process. I have heard of a couple of agents who do handle marriage extensions in a similar way to most of them with retirement extensions. The agent fee is much higher. Since the application goes to Division headquarters for approval, achieving any discretional changes to requirements is more complicated than when it just involves a senior official at the local immigration office. That, in addition to other factors, explains the increased fee.

Pretty much the only thing that an agent could assist with the financial requirements.

For anyone 50+ the agent would insist upon extension based on retirement being better option.

Most would flat out not assist with extensions marriage unless it was purely to assist with the paperwork.

They wanted my passport and Bangkok Bank book and 25,000bht for marriage extension. ????

It was just an enquiry, I didn't go ahead with it.....????

You mentioned 14,500b for retirement.

That sounds like Pattaya.

We all list agents.

There are threads specifically asking for agent recommendations.

I often throw up name of Maneerat in Pattaya and ThaiVisaCentre in Bangkok often.

Anyway all this is off topic from OP.

Nothing James bond about agents.

That's about it.

They're agents per se. They are freelancers. If you want one they will get you one. They'd do anything for a profit.

Maybe I am misunderstanding what an agent is?

I thought it was a visa service by people who simply prepare the documents and get you an expedited appointment so you don't waste time at immigration and don't have a house visit. Nothing to do with money in the bank that is my job.

Signing is done at their office not at immigration.
