Two U.S. F-35 fighter jets intercepted Russian fighter aircraft Tuesday as they approached Alaska's Air Defense Identification Zone, officials announced Thursday.

The Russian military aircraft included a TU-95 BEAR-H bomber, as well as SU-30 and SU-35 fighter jets.

The Russians have been doing it for decades both on the Alaskan side and around Norway, the UK and the North Sea.

The usual cat and mouse game.

Test the readiness of the opponent (does their air control work?).

Always flying close (not in!) to foreign airspace and then "escorted".

And here I thought most of the F35s were grounded ... ????

Alaska has some pretty sophisticated top secret facilities.....Not sure how off the books they are, but if they catch you lurking around; you might not be seen again....

Balloons , fighter jets, It just seems more & more we are headed towards what none really want.

These things are all provoking one way or another & it is not just China Balloons or Russian Jets

Not like the US does not do the same thing near Taiwan/China & many other spots etc

The end game is when the taunting succeeds then we are all living in a different world & we will long

for the days of peaceful existence

Same old same old with the added caveat of Putin’s Ukraine fiasco
