Great sadness over the untimely death of the 17-year-old who was following his dream at a prestigious UK football academy when his life was cut tragically short by some sort of accident resulting in a serious head injury.

The tragic death last weekend of Duangphet Phromthep, one of 12 members of the Wild Boar soccer team at a prestigious British football academy, has left Thailand, his friends and family stunned bringing an abrupt end to what appeared like a fairytale story for the soccer-loving teenager. The exact circumstances of his death have yet to be explained but it is understood to have been a tragic accident resulting in a head injury which will be adjudicated on by a UK coroners court.

Leicestershire Police in a statement on the death of 17-year-old Wild Boar soccer team captain Duangphet ‘Dom’ Phromthep has confirmed that his death last week at an exclusive boarding school in the town of Market Harborough was not suspicious and that a file on it is being prepared for the coroner.

God only knows what his parents have been / are going through.. Horrendous.

Yes, hopefully the exact cause of death will soon become clear.

The only positive note here is that his spirit won't be trapped in the UK, an ultimately horrid fate after all Dom's been through, probably worse than the cave. Another rescue, but by Thai monks!

The monks at the ceremony prayed for Dom’s spirit to be sent back home to Thailand. His mother had earlier expressed concern that Dom’s spirit could be trapped in Britain and wanted to have Buddhist monks there conduct rites for her son.

For those who may not know about UK Coroners, for reference:

Coroners are independent judicial officers who investigate deaths reported to them. They will make whatever inquiries are necessary to find out the cause of death, this includes ordering a post-mortem examination, obtaining witness statements and medical records, or holding an inquest.

A death is reported to a Coroner in the following situations:

  • a doctor did not treat the person during their last illness
  • a doctor did not see or treat the person for the condition from which they died within 28 days of death
  • the cause of death was sudden, violent or unnatural such as an accident, or suicide
  • the cause of death was murder
  • the cause of death was an industrial disease of the lungs such as asbestosis
  • the death occurred in any other circumstances that may require investigation

Yes, don't you just hate the thought of a spirit being stuck in my country, with us stinky, dirty, smelly unbuddist Brits. Pure xenophobia - even after death. Daft woman - what happens when he is re-incarnated as a UK grasshopper or even worse uk baby !

Probably has something to do with the bigotry, arrogance, provincialism, and hot air we find illustrated on the forum daily. And then there's the widespread inability to speak English or Thai. Oh, and the "cuisine." Yeah, all in all, repatriation will be most beneficial. Monks doing good here.

Be careful with that. If Vernon Unsworth hears you, he might sue.

Unfortunately Bill the "there is more to this than meets the eye" brigade, and those who seize on it as an opportunity to mock the Thai's religious beliefs, cannot wait.

Or generate advertising clicks, bottom line bottom line.....

In your experience how long, understanding that there maybe a range, will this wait be? Days? Weeks? Months?

And how detailed/definitive will the results be?

Very sorry I cannot be specific. I am not involved with the investigations in Leicestershire (UK). The Coroner's report will be made available as soon possible so that the poor lad can be repatriated to his grieving family in Thailand (unless agreed otherwise). We must wait until then.

I'm very concerned that the cause of death is not being revealed - this "wait for the coroner's report is not sufficient. Surprised the the authorities seem unaware of the problems caused by restricting the cause of death can cause.

With respect, this is standard practice in the UK. You must wait. The lad's family will be involved in the investigation, possibly with the assistance of Family Liaison Officers.

With "respect" no it isn't - the delay is unnecessary - a coroners re[port does not mean a blaket ban on the press.

There is no "blanket ban on the press" , there is just nothing more to report .

It has been stated that there are no suspicious circumstances and a head injury was the cause  and they are awaiting the coroners report , which wont be available until the summer
