Daily News Thai Caption: "Khanom Jeen Jingjok"

Daily News reported on a Facebook post under the name "Lom Hai Jai Thee Mee Khaa" (precious breath) that featured an unusual bonus in a lady's dinner.

The poster said they had hit the jackpot when they ordered the popular Thai dish "khanom jeen" (cold noodles with condiments) as a takeaway for a friend from their usual trader on a motorcycle with sidecar.

When the dish was poured out there - belly up - was a dead jingjok, the beady eyed lizard that eats mozzies on Thai walls.

Apparently there were some loud screams as the friend nearly retched.

It was the latest in a series of many "food dramas" playing out on social media.

So now seems an appropriate time to ask the ASEAN NOW faithful:

What is the most unusual item you have found in your food in Thailand, or elsewhere come to that?

To celebrate my Thai niece's birthday, 3 farangs & Thai wife went to an eatery.  She was our designated driver and managed to make a glass of wine last till the bill came.  Swigging it down she rapidly spat it back into the glass along with a large dead lizard.  We called the proprietor over having been there many times.  He magnanimously decreed the 90 baht wine would be deducted from the 6K bill.  It was our last visit; I reckon this generosity has cost him over a hundred thousand in lost custom since.
