BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has gained ground in a new survey on Thailand’s top choice for premier, closing in on frontrunner Paetongtarn Shinawatra for popularity in Bangkok.

The survey was conducted by Super Poll from February 17-18 and included 1,571 respondents.

Political newcomer Paetongtarn was backed by 28.5% of respondents, while the premier received support from 25.7%. This marks a reversal of previous polls since September by the National Institute of Development Administration, in which Gen Prayut had garnered less than half of Paetongtarn’s support.

The survey by Super Poll showed that Gen Prayut was the top choice in Bangkok among a third of those surveyed, while Paetongtarn was picked by 21.3% of respondents in the capital.

The public needs to run when dynasties take over government.

Well....let's see - if I'm not mistaken, the dynasty is the government and has been running the show for ages.

Semantics.

No way. This has to be fake news. I doubt 3% of the population would support this man. He is about the worst choice possible, and lacks any leadership ability.

The polls cannot lie ... can they?

Nonetheless......don't be surprised, come May, that they cleverly maneuver something or another in their favour.

It's been known to happen. ????

Also, wouldn't surprise me at all if he still has a greatly popular following and support amongst the tribes.

As Oz pollies often chant...

The only poll that counts is the one on polling day.

The survey by Super Poll

Super Polls are often mocked for their favorability towards the ruling government.

Back in the post-coup era Prayuth would often garner approval ratings in the mid to high 90% range from a Super Poll.

Good to see these clowns are back and haven't re-branded.

It's not fake news. It's a fake poll.

Baffling. This PM has done absolutely nothing he promised.....returning happiness to the people

Obviously, he needs to be given more time. These are noble goals which he has selflessly taken upon himself to complete. 8 years has proved to not be enough, he must  resign himself to taking more time.

And of course, the pending limitation on his time in office, well they can hardly be applied in the face of the democratic desire, so eloquently expressed by the Senate, to renew his tenure!

Well he did say his "twenty-year plan" was "irreversible".

20-year plan irreversible: PM

PRIME MINISTER Prayut Chan-o-cha staunchly defended his 20-year national strategy plan yesterday and warned that people should not allow politicians to scrap it, even as scholars expressed their fears it could be used to sabotage future governments.

“Today, many parties are saying that when they become the government, they’ll axe the national strategy,” Prayut said. “[That is] axing your own country. Will you people yield to that? You can’t. This is the avenue you must pursue if you want prosperity.”

The junta leader made the remark in a speech “National Strategy: Thai Future Our Future” that he gave to the opening of the National Economic and Social Development Board’s annual meeting at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani. The event was attended by more than 2,500 people from various sectors.
