ezzra
Keyless theft (otherwise known as relay theft) is relatively simple; all it requires is two small boxes of electronics, which thieves can use to open your car in as little as 60 seconds. Crooks will typically work in pairs to commit relay theft, with one holding a relay amplifier, and the other a relay transmitter, and the car gone in a minute or two.

Lee4Life
sounds more likely that someone had a frequency jammer, not that all of those vehicles security or entry systems were all "hacked" at once. 1
Elkski
Yes a jammer so cars were unlocked and could be robbed if they went in store or restroom.
radiochaser
Or it could be unintentional jamming by an electronic device emitting spurious radio signals. I investigated that a couple of times when I was gainfully employed. Edited February 25, 2023 by radiochaser
